Jill has a great apartment in Carroll Gardens. I felt very welcomed once in the apartment--she left some goodies on the table, and invited us to use any food or drinks in the fridge! The apartment itself was very well situated, one block from the subway, and two blocks from my family, so it could not have been better! The street was quiet, the views from the windows typically "Brooklyn" (therefore great), the bed was very comfortable. Upon arrival, it was nice and clean, and everything worked, exactly as Jill explained it would. The heating worked well too, which was nice since it was quite chilly outdoors. People have described the decoration as being a bit "quirky"--I'd say it's young, and designish, perfect for our needs, and we felt quite at home. I would definitely go back, and would recommend this apartment to anyone who has the opportunity to rent it.
Jill's apartment is great. Very creative and cozy. We had a great stay and highly recommend! Jill was great to work with and the check in went smoothly.
I stayed at Jill's place for 11 nights with 2 friends as we were celebrating my birthday and it was the perfect pad. Such a homely apartment with quirky interior. It was quiet on the streets and the neighbours are so friendly. So many bars and restaurants to go to and 20 minutes to the centre of manhattan. I loved it so much and felt right at home. I didn't get to meet Jill, but felt she was there when we needed something. Great pad and well recommended.
My boyfriend and I really enjoyed staying at Jill's apartment. It's nice and quirky and has got everything you may need. It's situated in a lovely area; very quiet yet lively, one block away from the tube (10 min ride to Manhattan) and the very animated Smith Street. Carroll Gardens is a lovely neighborhood and a great start if you want to spend some time visiting Brooklyn (Prospect Park also not too far).
Jill was very easy to communicate with and always responded quickly and provided us with a lot of useful information. She even let us keep our luggage in the flat until the afternoon, since our flight was in the early evening, which was much appreciated.
Thanks for letting us stay in your lovely place and we would definitely stay there again!
Staying here was the perfect choice for our long weekend in the city. Being a block from the subway made it so easy to get into Manhattan every day and then we got to come home to such a cute neighborhood with tons of great bars and restaurants. The apartment was even better than expected, comfy bed, cozy kitchen, and it really is sunny! I would 100% recommend Jill and her apartment to anyone looking for a good neighborhood in Brooklyn with easy access to the whole city.
Dana thank you so much for staying- I loved having you!!! All the best, Jill
Jill's place is great (clean, comfortable, spacious) and she was easy to communicate with whenever necessary. The neighborhood is quiet but there are many restaurants and shops just 2 blocks away.
Jill's description of her lovely apartment says it all. However I don't think Jill's photos do it full justice - it's a lovely apartment with the bedroom separated at one end, a living area in the middle and a full kitchen in the other end. It's a little quirky, extremely charming and very comfortable, and up at the end of a tight flight of stairs.
Location wise, if you've never visited Brooklyn before this is an amazing place to start - Carroll Gardens is charming, full of good restaurants and super convenient to all parts of NYC. There's a Rite-Aid on Smith St.
Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Jill in person, she was super responsive at all times, fretted about our cat allergies (apparently the neighbor downstairs keeps one, but nothing that couldn't be fixed with some antihistamines), and offered some great suggestions for her area.
In summary, a lovely place that I would have no hesitation in coming back to stay at NYC, especially if you want to explore Brooklyn. Thank you so much Jill for making our stay at your apartment such a pleasant and enjoyable stay.
Jill's apartment is in a good location to access many parts of Brooklyn. As written, it was indeed sunny and self contained. Jill was quick to respond to our enquiry and we were able to line up our stay at short notice. Since Brooklyn is our old home, we didn't spend much time in the actual apartment but rather out and about visiting friends However the time we did spend there was fine: the bed is comfy and the bathroom was clean and workable. We did have some trouble accessing regular TV, which we never did figure out, but thankfully we could watch netflix using the wii. We would happily use airbnb and Jill's place for future Brooklyn stays. x Lee & Mo
Our stay at Jill's in Brooklyn summed up the essence of what makes airbnb so great: the chance to stay in a really cool apartment in a really cool neighbourhood in a really cool city and for a fraction of the cost of a sterile, charmless hotel room!
The apartment: Jill's place is a generous open-plan apartment. It's not modern in a conventional sense but is stylish, sophisticated, cosy and warm with everything you need for a comfortable stay. This was our first time in NY so really we weren't there most of the time but after a long day's sightseeing, the apartment was a lovely, quiet, peaceful refuge.
It is no more than a 3-4 minute walk to the subway that'll bring you directly into Manhattan in about 20 minutes.
Carroll Gardens: As mentioned, neither me or my girlfriend had been to NY before so we did all the predictable tourist stuff! That said when I look back on this trip I can honestly say the memories that will be most prominent will be of the neighbourhood around the apartment. Safe, clean, charming and with a wide range of great eateries, cafés, shops and bars. Strolling around Carroll Gardens you'll see iconic Brownstone houses, trendy shops/bars, more traditional 'mom and pop' stores and families out for a walk. There's even a retro-feeling neighbourhood cinema where we went twice and would heartily recommend.
All the locals we met were a delight- all happy to chat, give directions, ask where we were from and make recommendations on things to do.
The host: We never met Jill in person. This was a pity as judging only by her home she is an intelligent, cultured and interesting lady. I did contact her a couple of times during our stay on routine matters. At all times she responded very quickly and was incredibly helpful and totally friendly and approachable. Moreover, before and during our stay she took the time to recommend lots of attractions in the area which was much appreciated. The overall feeling was of someone who justifiably loves where they live and was happy to share it with other people.
Jill's apartment, Brooklyn and New York will always hold special memories for us. I proposed to my girlfriend in Jill's kitchen on Christmas morning...thankfully she said yes!
Based on our experience, I'd recommend Jill & her place, Carroll Gardens & New York 100%.
We stayed 10 days at Jill's back in November 2013 and we had an amazing time: her place is not only cosy and well decorated, it is also conveniently located in a lively up and coming area of Brooklyn, with all necessary amenities and great connexion to Manhattan. On top of this, Jill has been fabulous with us: we felt very welcome, almost like at a friend's house :-)
