The bad experience with airbnb from 2010. Casa sporca senza cura. Bagno improponibile. Lenzuola e asciugamani sporche. Abbiamo dovuto pulire noi. E comprare lenzuola e asciugamani. Lui informato non si e' presentato. Su airbnb ci si aspetta intenzione. Ma qua questione solo di soldi e cassa. La casa posizionata bene ma lasciata alla deriva.
Vincent's place is a nice two-room apartment with kitchen and a bathroom, so there is enough space for two people. It is perfectly located near the Gare de l'Est and the Gare du Nord, has a direct view of the canal St. Martin and besides there are many bakeries, restaurants and shops nearby.
Nevertheless, we had rather mixed feelings about our staying there. Although the communication with Vincent worked perfectly during our stay, we never met him personally and got information solely via SMS. Besides, I sent him three messages before our arrival but I only got an answer the night before we travelled to Paris. I got the keys from a near Mexican restaurant and it seemed quite obvious that he uses the apartment only for airbnb.
The walls to the neighbouring apartment are very thin and the first evening we could hear the football match our neighbour was watching in detail. There is no real bed but only a mattress on the floor and unfortunately we, too, weren't too sure about the cleanliness of the bedsheets (having read older reviews I had luckily brought my own). It is really sad to say, but both, kitchen and bathroom were kind of filthy. The tiles and the mirror in the bathroom might not have been cleaned for ages, and in the kitchen the sink and the kitchen-cabinets were dirty, the garbage has not been emptied and the towels of former guests were lying in the shelves. Generally, it is exactly these two rooms which make clear that the flat is old, that only the most necessary things have been done to make it a bit more comfortable, and that it is not used for own purposes. Wifi, however, worked without any problems and there is a wine cooler too.
Let me start by saying this was the worst traveling experience I have had till this day.
No one welcomed us. We had to pick up the keys at the gas station. Once we figured out how to get in. What a DISGUSTING surprise it was. The apartment was FILTHY. The bathroom was nasty and smelly. The kitchen same. Of course NO coffee maker either. And the trash bin was full of garbages from previous guest! Now the worst: the bed SMELLED HORRIBLE. The sheets were not cleaned. After a quick investigation the comforter inside was a disgrace. I was horrified. I contacted Vincent to let him know about it. After a few messages (no instruction to get wifi, I had to ask) I was kindly inform by Vincent. And I quote: "other guests were not as demanding as me and that I should look around at hotels for their prices and quality!). Did not sleep that night. It was arranged after being so rightfully "demanding!" to have all linens changed. Which happened the next day. It was of poor quality but new and cleaned. Imagine we didn't spend much time in the apartment.
There was no check out time agreed but was told to leave by 11am. A friend of his who came around 11am and pretended to clean (without bringing any new sheets nor towels) was surprised to see us there as Vincent did not informed her. She was very nasty and told us that we have to leave immediately. We asked her that if we can stay until our car service come. The answer was a NO! So we got kicked out on the street with our big suitcases. (She was very unpleasant and told me that this was not a hotel! Common thread here).
The neighborhood was not that great, it was very noisy and people were working out in the park outside until at least midnight.
So give yourself a favor and check somewhere else.
I never met Vincent, but he responded quickly to my questions pre-arrival date. I would have liked a little more heads up concerning key pickup/drop-off, though.
The wifi is not great—it goes out frequently and can be difficult to connect.
I chose not cook, but I imagine it would be difficult to do so, as there are no pots/pans. Just one skillet and one electric burner.
The apartment could use a good cleaning. Our sheets/towels were clean. However, there were lots of dust bunnies, and a used q-tip on the floor.
That being said, I loved the location—it's one of my favorite neighborhoods in Paris.
Communication with Vincent was very smooth, and he replied quickly to emails.
The apartment is very well situated, on the Canal St Martin. Although there is a busy road outside, the double glazing is good and cuts out all the noise.
There are various nice restaurants and cafés in the close vicinity, and transport links are excellent, with a selection of metro lines within 5 minutes walk.
Unfortunately the apartment wasn't very clean. The shower was filthy. Sheets, towels and pillow cases were dirty, and although Vincent's partner brought me a new towel and sheet, I bought washing powder to wash the pillow cases myself.
The wifi didn't work on arrival. Vincent sorted out an alternative solution after 2 days but this was a very slow connection, not really sufficient for working.
Although the flat does have basic cooking facilities, they are limited to a single hot plate. A single frying pan, no saucepans or bowls and a random selection of crockery made it hard to cook and eat proper meals.
Mixed feelings overall - well located, easy to communicate, but not a great experience in all honesty.
Vincent was really communicative and responded quickly to our questions. The location of the apartment was awesome. The only issues we had were with the wifi, tv, and washer because they didn't work. Also the apartment was kind of dirty and the sheets were not washed and had hair from previous guests on them.
The reservation was canceled 4 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Vincent was a very nice host who responded quickly to all questions and made us feel welcome. He gave many good recommendations for places to go in his neighborhood and left us a nice bottle of wine. The apartment is well located with wonderful views of the canal. One of the most enjoyable areas of Paris.
Very nice, friendly and kind guests, Vincent and his girlfriend; They left the house clean and perfect! Highly Recommend them for all airbnb host´s
