I am an energetic and cheerful person with a good sense of humor. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE traveling. It would be a dream come true if I can travel abroad once a year. Right now, at least I always take an out-of-state trip at least once a year (in addition to going home to Wisconsin)!
I also LOVE LOVE LOVE to eat for fun. I eat (almost) anything! For example, I tried bondeggi (Korean boiled silkworm pupae). Would I ever eat that again? No, but hey, at least I know what that tastes like...Hehehehe. It is very important that I at least try it. I am definitely the kind of person who would rather "die trying" than ask "what if".
I am very lucky to have married to a wonderful husband, my soul mate, who understands my needs to travel. We love taking small trips together, but he is not into long trips, but you know I do! If you go abroad, you can't just stay for 3 days! ^___^. We don't have kids (nor do we want to), but we have a spoiled cat named Jake (he thinks he owns us). Hehehehe... For now, we live in Philadelphia, PA, USA. We are enjoying ourselves here, but we know that we would LOVE to retire somewhere else (oh, I don't know...Amsterdam, maybe?? ^___^).
When it comes to travel, the most important thing for me is to be able to enjoy the moment, enjoy the experience. I used to be one of those tourists who were busy taking pictures instead of absorbing and appreciating the surrounding. Now that I'm older, I definitely prefer to be truly engaging with my surrounding and storing the memories in my head and heart instead. I find that to be more fulfilling and more memorable than looking at pictures. I don't want to let life pass me by, kinda thing. ^_^
When it comes to traveling - I always set a target of places that I must visit (I usually max this out at 5 places). Then after the to do list is completed, I would spend the rest of the trip just relaxing - this is probably when I'll eat the most. HAHA! ^___^ Urban locations strike my interest more than countryside (doesn't mean I won't go if time permits). I don't care for shopping as much, but always love to bring a little knick-knack home for souvenirs. LOVE seeing art and architectural sites, but does not necessarily translate to museum visits. I'd rather admire murals (Philadelphia has lots of this) and buildings as I stroll on the streets kinda experience vs going to museums.
I don't read too much nowadays, though I do love to read. I prefer light and humorous topics vs deep philosophical ones. Love musical (but would rather spend the money eating than buying show tickets), jazz, (phone number hidden)'s music, Korean pop, some techno/dance although I no longer have motivation to go clubbing. I'd rather be sitting at a cafe or the beach doing nothing.
I have a strong interest in learning languages. I speak English and Indonesian fluently, and know how to read Chinese and Korean (speaking is very, very rough but enough to get by during my travels there). Learning about other cultures and ancient history is also huge for me.
I definitely don't like to spend too much time in my lodging when I travel but I do put a high priority on being in a clean, safe and secure lodging. I place safety and security over comfort (I don't mind sleeping on a couch as long as it's in a safe place).
My life motto sounds cliche, but hey, it's definitely me:
I only have one life to live and I am going to live it responsibly and to the fullest.
