I live in the city of Rotterdam, together with my boyfriend, in the Netherlands. I'm an academic working in the criminology department at Leiden University. When I'm not working I enjoy reading, walking and cycling (particularly in cities - it's my background in urban sociology), and discovering new music. My first travel with Airbnb was to California for work: I stayed in San Francisco a couple of weeks while I visited the Stanford Law School in Nov-Dec 2012. Airbnb for me is perfect for work travels: I like staying in a place that feels a bit like home, where I can cook and relax after work. Whenever I visit a place, whether for work or holiday, I like to explore on foot or bicycle, avoid tourist magnets and try to get a feel for the everyday life. Airbnb is perfect for this purpose! We haven't hosted via Airbnb but we've had guests via CouchSurfing (and surfed myself) and I've really enjoyed meeting new people and making people feel welcome, at home and comfortable in your own home.
