Seeker, worker, mother, partner, critic, slacker (not necessarily in that order of priority). Country girl who grew up to become a crunchy granola lefty living in an earth-sheltered home in Travis County, the progressive oasis of Texas. I enjoy classic country and hip-hop, documentary films and trashy TV, haute cuisine and southern cookin', and.... you get the picture. In 2006, I added parenthood to my slate of interests and wow has *that* ever altered my existence.
Things I love: Austin, water, fish sauce, my boys, dives, music, flip-flops, snark, community involvement, culinary anthropology, travel, kindness, enthusiasm, guts
My style of travel varies depending on how many times I've previously visited a place. First time, I try to pack as many sights & tastes as possible into my window of opportunity, with little sleep and a packed agenda for each day. If it's the 2nd or 3rd or 40th visit to a beloved destination, I like to do more (email hidden) like a local" experience, staying in a more residential-ish setting, and taking a slow pace (preferably on foot or public transport) to interact with people and focus on 1 or 2 activities that I enjoy most in that city. If it's business travel or another task-oriented trip, my M.O. is more likely to be about quiet & clean, a very comfortable bed, great internet service, privacy, and black-out curtains.
BTW, I'm a Yelp fanatic and an active participant in the exceptionally friendly & fun-loving Yelp community in Austin, TX, so definitely look me up there if you need some advice when visiting our fair city. (website hidden)
I'm just beginning my Airbnb experience with a trip to NOLA in May 2013, but I have many friends who host via Airbnb and I'm excited to find out how it works for myself. I just may become a host in the future....
