I am originally from NY, and have been living in San Francisco since October, 2007. In June, 2010, I moved out of my apartment, and have been living on Airbnb in San Francisco off and on since then.

Brian was an awesome host, and the place was great. Welcome basket waiting on arrival, comfortable apartment, and he even invited me to do yoga with him and his girlfriend one morning. I'd recommend this spot to anyone.
One of the best airbnb experiences I've ever had! Warm and welcoming and most importantly, great people! Brian is friendly, funny and down to earth. We even did a morning yoga session at the house! Had a chance to philosophize over wine and geek out over TED and tech and the future of communities. Delightful experience I'll never forget.
As you might expect, it's also a beautiful clean house with a comfy couch :)
You know the legends. And you know you won the lottery, so to speak, to get to sleep on this couch -- WHERE IT ALL STARTED.
Brian told me he randomly selects some dates each year to open up his apartment to Airbnb guests and if you are lucky, such as I was, you will have the experience of a lifetime -- to witness AND experience the origins of a great company (equivalent to working alongside Larry and Sergey in their original garage :)
I was in town for a conference and Brian's place was clean and well-stocked with plenty of towels, cold drinks and the welcome basket which contained premium snacks from Whole Foods and a bottle of Acqua Panna. Brian's partners no longer live here but he's got a roommate named Tito who works for the company. I had a nice chat with him. Both him and Brian were extremely welcoming hosts, constantly asking if I feel comfortable or if they could get me anything. We had an almost comic shtick-like LOL moment when one night Brian came home and I was already in bed -- or, on the couch -- and he saw I only had a thin layer of comforter so he offered to "tuck me in" with another blanket. His girlfriend stood aside and laughed so hard when we performed the "tuck-in" precious moment (like a MasterCard, or the new Airbnb, commercial) and I beatifically closed my eyes and pretended to fall asleep.
On another occasion, I didn't find a hair dryer in the apartment and Brian and his co-workers bought one for me right away. Talk about world-class concierge service.
On my last day, I had a tour of the company HQ and met with many talented individuals who made the Airbnb experience truly unique, smooth and memorable. You tell me this trip was not once in a lifetime? And I tell you it all started just a few years ago right where I was sleeping the past week.
I had a lovely stay!
It felt really special to be able to stay at the original Airbnb - thinking about how the whole concept started years ago on the very same couch and air bed is humbling and exciting at the same time. I didn't really get to see Brian until the very last day and we had a great short chat and he even offered to carry my luggage downstairs.
Brian was a super welcoming host that went above and beyond in making me feel welcome in his very unique home.
Before arrival, he messaged me that he had purchased movie tickets to join him and his girlfriend, Elissa. They were both fantastic, and I thoroughly enjoyed our stimulating conversations at dinner before the movie and afterwards back at the apartment. It was a wonderful way to start a week of work travel.
If you have the opportunity to visit Rausch street, please do. You'll find out instantly why Airbnb has been so successful: the hosts, including its CEO, are in it for far more than the money. :)
Brian's place is awesome. His roommates were really welcoming, too. I am somewhat familiar with SOMA, which I generally associate with a less "homey" feeling area than every other SF neighborhood. Staying at Brian's showed me a new side of SOMA: the view off the roof-deck into the backyards behind his place looked exactly like the Mission. It was really cool to get this perspective.
The place is really clean and there was a great welcome basket for me with a bottle of wine. Clean towels, soap, etc. all provided. Also, Brian's bathtub has a crazy waterfall faucet that I've never seen before - which probably isn't posted on his listing, but is pretty much worth a trip to SF on its own.
Brian was a wonderful host! He was very helpful and attentive and took time out of his incredibly busy schedule to talk and make me feel welcome on his couch. After just a few days, I was already starting to feel like I had come home when I got back to his apartment, and that's a hard thing to make happen.
Staying at the original Airbnb was surreal. Thanks to Brian and Joe for making all of it possible. And to Elizabeth for coordinating with my mixed up flight schedule. I would definitely recommend this to others!
Brian is hands-down the best host I've met. Staying at the original Airbnb is absolutely the best Airbnb experience I've had.
Even though Brian is normally really busy, he made time to hang out and talk to me. We not only chatted in the apartment but he also took me to the Airbnb HQ, gave me a detailed personal tour of the office and introduced me to the team. Which CEO has time for that? (btw the Airbnb HQ is probably the most creative space you will ever see) Brian also allowed me to stay at the apartment for 2 extra days and upgraded me from the couch to the bedroom, which is so nice of him. And he gave me a bottle of really good wine. These are just small gestures but overall Brian is just an amazing person. Both Brian and Joe (the other co-founder of Airbnb who lives in the apartment) are so humble and down-to-earth, which is so rare for successful people like them. I really enjoyed talking with them and I wish we could hang out more. The apartment itself is not only rich in history but also beautifully decorated. You can totally see Brian and Joe's design background in the way they decorated the place - so simple yet tasteful, and full of books. I feel so inspired in the space and I don't even want to go out. Creative ideas just keep on coming when I'm in the living room :) The apartment has everything you need and it is very centrally located. I really felt at home here and I am so glad I met Brian and Joe who built my favorite company, Airbnb. My stay in SF will not be the same if I stayed somewhere else. I'm giving a five star but if I had the choice to give ten stars I would totally do that. Thanks again Brian! :D
Brian and his girlfriend nabbed our place for Valentine's Day Weekend. There's not much more anyone can say about Brian. He's super friendly and obviously takes great care of the homes he rents. Is was very cool to have him as our guest. Hopefully, you get the same opportunity.
Brian was an awesome guest, took good care of our property and communicated from start to finish. We would definitely recommend him.
Obviously hosting Brian is a great privilege, but more than that, it demonstrates Brian and Airbnb's commitment to support the business that has help each host succeed in this great journey we are all part of.
I have worked with his wonderful colleague, Danielle, on several occasions and she has been nothing short of wonderful; and if you get the chance, you will see just why.
All the best!
Danielle is the nicest guest I've ever had. She is welcome back for free at anytime since we are friends now. Plus, there is a lot you can learn in life with her.
Brian was the worst guest I've ever had!! Just kidding, he's a cool dude and it was awesome having him over.
It was an honor and a pleasure to host Brian and Elissa. They were warm and friendly guests. Brian's demanding schedule meant that we saw him very little but I was able to have a quick conversation the morning of their check-out. Brian thoughtfully sent flowers with a thank you note. We recommend him highly as a guest.
It was great to host Brian, who is indeed the founder of airbnb, unfortunately we didn't get much time to chat as his busy schedule and mine were not very compatible. He of course was a great guest to have.
Pleasure to have Brian stay and see him live the values of AirBnB and love the community we are a part of (and he started!). Brian obviously has a very busy schedule but when we did find room for a bit of couch time it was a great evening of watching hockey and debating the world (well hockey mainly!). And thanks for the invite to the AirBnB community event- was a fun evening!
Wish him the best and will support him all the way in his current NYC battles. Be great to have him stay again or just catch up for a hello when next in town.
Who wouldn't be flattered to have the CEO of AirBnB stay at their place – Brian was a of course an amazing guest, after all he was the first to ever host so who else to better know what host like. Great communication and respect, he has them in spades.
Hosting Brian was such an exhilarating experience! He is a brilliant visionary, with complete humility, and unmatched passion for the AirBnb community.
His energy is electrifying and infectious. His ability to inspire the people around him explains how he has built a tremendous team, a revolutionary company, and a friendly community. I am so proud and honored to be a part of it.
I didn't think it was possible, but after meeting Brian, my passion and enthusiasm for AirBnb has tripled. He is extraordinary. Thank you Brian for changing the lives of so many people, and for infusing so much soul into the world of travel.
Oh...and needless to say he was an exceptional guest. Very clean, very respectful, very communicative. I would welcome him back to the Happy House anytime, and highly recommend you host him if you get a chance.
Never in my life have I met a visionary like Brian. He has an incredible gift in turning his creative visions into reality. Brian is an inspirational leader of Airbnb, and has maintained his humble nature throughout the company's successes. If you get the chance to host him, jump on it!
I met Brian at the DNC in 2008. He stayed with one of my good friends and introduced me to AirBnB, which I have used may times since. Super smart, ambitious guy. He is the CEO. You can probably trust him ;-).
Brian is an all around great guy. I met him about three years ago through Y Combinator when he was just starting Airbnb. He's one of the smartest and hardworking people i've met. Over the years i've had a chance to get to know him better, and we've had in depth conversations about our respective businesses and i always value and trust his advice. I recommend Brian because he thoughtful, considerate and all great guy whether it be renting a room for the night, or collaborating on business or just hanging out with.
When I joined the Airbnb Team, I had no idea what to expect of Brian. Most CEO's of companies are completely inaccessible and treat you like they don't even know who you are--but Brian is different. In the past few months, I can honestly say that my only experiences of Brian have been warm smiles and kind words. He's completely down to Earth, friendly, caring and one of the hardest working people I've ever seen. He lives and breathes what Airbnb stands for and practices what he preaches as he STILL stays in Airbnb properties not just when he travels, but full-time! In fact, all of the founders still travel this way. If you are like me and are a person whose life has literally been changed by Airbnb, then you'll definitely want to jump at the chance to host Brian because it's very inspiring to be around one of the guys who built this company from the ground up by staying true to himself, believing in the inherent good in others and by putting the desires of his users first.
Brian is great! he gets along with everyone and is a lot of fun to be around. He definitely makes you feel comfortable and at home. He's also a dedicated person to have on your kick ball team =]
Brian has been very nice to work with...responsible and conscientious. I have been to his place-everyone is amiable and it is well kept. I would have him as a guest without any hesitation.
Beside the fact that he wouldn't let me touch him... Brian is a very comfortable guy to be around. Just be prepared to eat nothing but steak.
Brian is a cool guy-- nice, friendly, considerate and good-natured. I would totally reccomend someone to stay with Brian. :)
Brian is a charming, witty, bold and in some ways completely out of this world. He's a very respectful guest and keeps himself pretty much to himself. But don't let this solemn, polite first impression fool you. Talk with him. He will blow your mind. His energy, ideas and opinion will leave you feeling like you've probably never lived your life before meeting someone like him. If you ever receive a request from him, accept it. Change your plans and make way for this guy. Trust me. It will change your life. :)
Brian, is the man. An innovative person who is one of the co-founders of (website hidden). He and his friends started this website. Yes, I would highly recommend anyone to stay with Brian.
