I'm a happy dad of a fantastic four year old son, I'm a traveler, an outdoor enthusiast, an engineer and many more things.
Christchurch has been through some serious earth quakes, starting in September 2010. It's all pretty calm now, with only the occasional little rumble that many people don't even notice - but this is one interesting place now, more than ever before! So much change is happening here now, it's unbelievable.
The amount of construction work going on everywhere is off any scale. By now, most damaged buildings have been taken down, and the spaces cleared for a new beginning. Every other day, I drive past another construction site where there's a new building that's sprung up seemingly over night, and it is exciting to see this city spring back to life! It is even more exciting to meet all the great people who make this possible with their hard work, creativity, and heart, and I am glad that I get to live here during this time.
If you are interested in earthquakes, natural disasters, and how communities can not only cope, but even benefit from these challenges in the long run, this is one of the best places on earth to check out, watch, and learn! Life doesn't come any purer than this.
Of course, Christchurch still also is THE best base from which to explore nearly everything on the South Island of New Zealand. You can literally go skiing in the morning and have a BBQ at the beach in the evening! There is fantastic fishing here, endless walking and mountain bike trails of all levels of diffculty in the bush, forest and mountains, and for those who want, more adrenaline sports than you can try out in a lifetime.
Christchurch is a place that is growing on you the longer you are here. I'm happy that I can live here, and I love to make it possible for visitors to see a little of this place and maybe catch a glimpse or two that they would likely not see otherwise.

Happy travels, wherever you are!
