Good location, short waking distance to the Eiffel Tower but that is where the positives end.
Poor communication - no contact from
Benjamin until 10pm on our last night. We arrived at apartment and let ourselves into the building using the code we were given but with no further information we were left stranded in the building without knowing which apartment was ours or how to get into it. Tried contacting Benjamin but fortunately by chance we found a mail box with Benjamin's name on it and a key and then through a series of elimination found the door.
Apartment did not accurately reflect the description given. Very small and only one double bed and one pull out couch. A single mattress with no bedding was also in the corner. Not four beds as advertised.
Over all, it was liveable for our short stay but left feeling disappointed and wouldn't recommend for more then 2-3 people.
It was a very up and down experience for us.
On the whole the communication with the host was often challenging - and later totally non-existent.
We arrived at pre-arranged time to find no host. We called, left voice mails and wrote emails with no respone. This is very unsettling when you have no back up plan. After an hour, I called Airbnb to ask them what to do. They asked me to continue to call the host and they would do the same. More voice mails, some pouring rain and 90 minutes later an annoyed call from a woman telling us the keys were in the letterbox. No apology, no excuse.
The flat is very large by Paris standards. It is as it looks on the photos - a very comfortable and practical space. The TV is huge, the wifi is fast and the kitchen is well equipped.
The location of the apartment is great; the area is littered with nice places to eat and very close to the metro so it’s an ideal "pied à terre". All neighbours seemed friendly and it feels very safe.
However, there were negatives which will bother some more than others but which make this listing not quite as pleasant as seems or good value for money.
- The bed is NOT king size but a very standard double.
- The couch is a fold out double but not VERY comfortable as posted. It is creaky and very uneven but OK for a night (or two).
- There was only the end of a toilet roll and no refill in sight.(Thanks to the previous reviewer who made me think to bring a roll.)
- There were no towels (as opposed to what is posted) and when we did get towels on the second day after request, they were very small.
We could have ignored all of this except for one thing which is not acceptable for any rented accommodation: Cleanliness.
Clearly someone had prepared for our arrival by making the beds, vacuuming the floor and tidying, but you realise quickly that the place needs a decent clean.
The bathroom is full of mould on the tiles (nothing that a mould spray and a good scrub won't solve). The bath, shower door, cupboard and sink have not been cleaned for a while and the bath mat and bath drain were absolutely revolting. Given the cleaning fee is included there is really no excuse for this.
Benjamin was flexible about letting us leave our luggage in the apartment on departure day - this was prearranged before arrival. A few messages were sent since the towel request to arrange departure and keys but no response was given.
I would love to recommend this space and even stay here again but while it only needs little in order to make it an absolutely amazing place to visit, the basic standards have slipped and the host is complacent. Such a shame!
Benjamin was a person very easy to deal with. Very respectful and kind. If possible, get his other phone number in order to talk to him if you want to. Problems, they really happen, who knows? But when they happen it is good to have someone that you can count on. Thanks Benjamin!
Benjamin and his family were good guests. I hope to have the opportunity to be hosted soon in his apartments in Paris!
pas de souci
Benjamin is a great person and a great host, generous, welcoming, always ready to help and to give tips. I actually crashed in his guest's bedroom several times in Shanghai and he did everything he could to make me feel at home. I am sure he does the same with Airbnb guests.
