We had such a great time in this wonderful jungle house! You feel like Tarzan&Jane:)
Niek was very easy to communicate with and helped us in difficult situations per mail and sms. Olga from the office was super friendly and helpful!
This is a great exotic jungle house with a walking distance to the secluded Playa Chiquita. There are some very nice cafes and yoga studio nearby and by bike or car you can easily reach other beautiful beaches, good restaurants and the night life of Puerto Viejo. The house is surrounded by a beautiful garden and you really feel like you are close to the nature .The house is spacious with three bedrooms and a separate studio that you can also rent. We really enjoyed the design of the house which is stylish and innovative. There are some surprising solutions like the exciting, almost open-space bathroom and the shower that has an open access from one of the bedrooms. Some parts the house needs upgrading: the beds were uncomfortable, the kitchenware was not in good condition and the other patio was in bad shape. We stayed in the house during the rainy season so it was really moist and it smelled a bit mouldy at least in two of the bedrooms. We paid a deposit and arranged things (keys, drinking water etc.) with a private property management company, which worked great but it takes away that cosy feeling you look forward when staying at airbnb listings.
We enjoyed our stay at Villa Luz y Sombra. The house was in a very secluded area, and we were given a quick tour by the people who greeted us. They were very nice to have come out at 9 p.m. to give us the keys and introduce us to the house.
The facility is beautiful. We were very happy with the accommodations and the surrounding environment. Of course, the beach is near, and having a car made the access much nicer.
We wish there would have been WiFi in the house. Our cell phone service did not work since we were out in the jungle, and we were under the impression that we would be able to do some work at the house. We are teachers in San Jose, so many people needed internet access. When we arrived, we were informed that there was only internet access in the office, which was about a mile down the road.
On the day we left, we were a little bit confused about the check out procedures. We called the office and the cell phone numbers provided to us, but we didn't receive a response, so we left a message. We dropped the keys in a dropbox next to the door of the office. Unfortunately there was nobody working there because check-out was on Sunday.
I think most guests stay for an extended period of time at the Luz y Sombra, but since we were just on a weekend getaway, perhaps it made the timing a little difficult.
I would recommend for anyone looking to vacation to stay at this beautiful house! I would also like to suggest to the hosts to provide WiFi access and more explicit directions as far as check-out procedures on the weekend.
Thank you for the nice weekend,
Boutique Tropical Villa Lus Y Sombra was a lovely place to stay. We booked at the last minute and everything went smoothly for the most part. Niek was very responsive on email and the people who set us up at the house were also friendly and helpful. The house is very beautiful and peaceful, and it is much more beautiful than the photos make it look. The kitchen is well equipped and the house has a beautiful, open layout with lots of space for hanging out. We were a group of friends but it would also be great for a family. There is a great outdoor bbq area as well. We saw many beautiful birds and animals and the landscaping is gorgeous. Definitely a great place to stay. I would recommend it to anyone who likes privacy, peace, and a beautiful setting.
