Great location(10 min. walk to the beach), with a big beautiful garden that is full of blooming tropical plants. The place is really old and the furniture needs repairs or replacement. It is only comfortable for a maximum of 1-2 people. Seems overpriced in high season.
Alberto wasn't there, but Paolo and Nora were very pleasant and helpful.
The garden is absolutely beautiful and very big and very fantastic! The neighbors very friendly and helpful. It's a 5 minutes walk to the beach and the area is quiet and nice, except perhaps from the barging dogs and the closely neighbor watching TV very loud. He must be 80 years old and deaf as a chicken. The house is a bit impersonal, real cold lights, some very old furnitures, the kitchen-drain out of order. Since we went in december we paid almost double for the Vila Ibis, a price that was close to the one of a hotel apartment , and I guess I think that was a bit to pricy to be honest.
The apartment was great! Alberto wasn't around, but the neighbors were incredibly friendly and helpful. It's a great little apartment just down the road from the beach. There are restaurants near by and a quick walk gets you into the rest of the town. Ceiling fans help with the heat; comfy bed, refrigerator, sink, hot plate, and nice shower with hot water. There was a nice yard and patio area, that unfortunately we didn't use.
Alberto's cottage was really lovely with one of the most magical gardens in the area. I stayed there for roughly 3 nights with two other ladies and we were all able to fit into the one bed. There is also an additional mattress and a couch for more guests, plenty of sheets and towels, and a fully functioning kitchen with a hot plate. The cottage is right off the beaten path of one of the nicest parts of the las terranes beach called Playa Poppy, and after a full day of sun, sand and fresh ceviche (try LA YUCA) we could gather on the porch hang our towels have a glass of wine and a fresh passion fruit given to us by the neighbor. Lots of mosquitos in the area, so bring spray! The house stayed cool and breezy all night and we felt safe and sound and refreshed every morning. I would definitely recommend this quaint cottage if you need somewhere to crash and feel at home. I will hopefully get to stay there next year as we loved it so very much!
Alberto's Villa Ibis is a truly wonderful place to spend a low-key, inexpensive vacation in DR. Alberto is effortless to work with, and the neighbors who take are of things for him when he is not there are wonderfully helpful and friendly. The accommodations are simple and modest, but absolutely sufficient, comfortable, and clean. The shower is hot and strong, there's a brand-new fridge, and there's both 120V and European 220V outlets. The gardens are huge and beautiful and a great place to relax. If you stay for a longer period, you can have the neighbor's maid clean and do laundry for about $20 she is very thorough and trustworthy.
The location is excellent, a one-minute walk up a sandy path to the beach, just far enough from the beach road that you hear no traffic. It's about 500m from the edge of town, so it's quiet, yet right next to all the beach restaurants and easily accessible to the shops, the beach fish market, etc. Once you get to Las Terrenas, you don't really need a car on a daily basis (lots of mototaxis, or you can rent a motorbike or 4-wheeler - plenty of car rental places there as well). Everything you need - banks, pharmacies, restaurants, supermarkets, bakeries, mobile providers, etc. is all there in town.
The only small difficulty with Villa Ibis is with the internet connection. The wi-fi is shared with a neighbor, and is inconsistent. This isn't a big deal though. I just got a SIM card from the local mobile provider Claro and took a month of data for around $35 (check out the Claro Dominican Republic website under internet movil "planes prepago") You can also get (phone number hidden) days. It's supposed to be limited amounts of data, but it turns out to be unlimited - only the time is limited. The speed is plenty for (website hidden)ing, surfing, etc. The advantage then is that you have internet wherever you are, and you can call home for free with (website hidden) from anywhere.
This place is perfect if you're looking for something modest, and inexpensive in a charming little town on a beautiful beach. Las Terrenas is a wonderfully "real" DR vacation town filled with Dominicans as well as Italians, French, and a smattering of other Europeans and N. Americans. I strongly recommend both Las Terrenas, and Alberto's Villa Ibis!
It is a good location near the beach.. Spacious room and bathroom. Nice terrasse. At night the neighbor's dogs bark. During the day is quiet. Remember to bring soap and drink water
