My partner and I live in an 100 year-old house in Downtown Durham with our two pups, Ruby and Chispa, our six chickens, and four bee hives.

The Sweet Room in Downtown Durham was truly sweet and so are the hosts. Their home was beautifully renovated, lovely decor, clean and comfortable. Perks included fresh eggs from their own home-raised chickens and strawberries form the garden! My wife and I highly recommend it!
Great house, yard/farm, and pups! Close enough to walk to downtown restaurants and my room was styling. Made for a wonderful trip and I'd love to go back. Thanks Emily-Kate!
This room was perfect. Great location if you want to bike or walk to just about anywhere downtown, very comfortable bed and the house itself is lovingly restored. My only regret is not spending more time at the house as we were in town for a music festival and out all day and into the late evening. Would absolutely stay again.
This was our first Airbnb trip, and we loved it! Emily-Kate is a wonderful host with a beautiful home. The accommodations were very comfortable and welcoming. Sweet dogs, chattering chickens, and so much character. We would definitely love to return next time we pass through.
Felt like home! Very comfortable, super clean - this was a fantastic place to stay. Our hosts were easy to reach (email and text) and made our weekend in Durham a pleasure. As a bonus, two of the cutest and most welcoming pooches made the night just perfect. Look forward to visiting again!
Thanks Emily-Kate and Laura!
Emily-Kate and Laura have such a beautiful home. The room is big and bright and the bed is super comfortable. Their dogs are super sweet. It's walking distance from almost everything in downtown Durham. I would very highly recommend their place-- it was a perfect AirBNB experience. We also loved Monuts Donuts and Fullsteam Brewery.
I had a very nice stay in downtown Durham at Emily-Kate's and Laura's for the Full Frame festival. They have done such a great job completely renovating this 100 year-old property. It is colorful, clean, comfortable, cozy, to name a few c-starting adjectives. I am finicky about beds, and their guest room bed is one of the best I have slept in...."firm but soft!" The kitchen is exactly what I like (open and uncluttered) and worked well for me for my daily breakfast routine. And I was really glad there was no TV on anywhere to destroy the quiet! If I am back in Durham, I will stay again!
My partner and I stayed with Emily-Kate, her partner Laura, and their team of pets for 5 nights in March. We had an amazing time, thoroughly enjoying the unexpected delights of Durham, and this was in large part due to the gracious and welcoming hospitality of Emily-Kate. It was the perfect airbnb experience. Emily-Kate met us at our arriving train, offered some great tips to enjoy our stay, was relaxed about our presence in her gorgeous, sustainable and spacious home, and was always up for a quick chat when we crossed paths. Otherwise we were free to enjoy Emily-Kate's home as a housemate would.
Although the weather was cold, the house was warm, the bed was comfortable and the couch a great place to stretch out to read with a dog by your side. Emily-Kate's home is a 10-15 minute walk to downtown and the up-and-coming Central Park district. We only had a car for two days, and got by on foot and bus (and a cab to Duke) the rest of the time, including after dark. The neighbourhood (probably the closest to the downtown) is, like most of the downtown area, in transition, which is fascinating - and worth seeing now.
Exactly what I wanted. A beautiful house with gracious hosts and cute dogs. For the short time I was there I felt like a trusted member of the household. Highly recommended.
Emily-Kate was a great host; her home was lovely, tastefully decorated, and very clean. Emily and her partner (and their two sweet dogs) were friendly and conversational. They helped me to feel right at home while still allowing me plenty of space. The bed is very comfortable and warm and I loved the farmhouse sink in the bathroom. The house was easy to find and private despite being so close to downtown Durham. I wholeheartedly recommend Sweet Room as the top spot to stay in Durham.
Wonderful guests. Didn't have time to visit more with them, but they left the cabin very tidy. I would welcome them back anytime.
