My name is Lanice and I am a doctoral candidate at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. I study psychology and women's studies, and I frequently travel to academic conferences to present my research on popular culture, intersectionality and sexuality. When I am not working, I like to check out new restaurants, movies, art exhibits, and shows. My work life is very hectic and stressful, so I try to relax as much as possible while I am away. I like to return home feeling inspired and energized.

When traveling, I love shopping (so much!!!), but I also I enjoy tracking down amazing local coffee shops and bookstores. I like to venture through the city to explore the local landmarks and attractions; then I like to come back to a cool and comfortable space to relax and enjoy my evening. I love beautiful places that have great accommodations, and I don't do well with spaces that are not especially clean and organized.

I am from Southern California and I moved to Michigan 4 years ago for graduate school. I miss living on the coast -- I miss mild temperatures, the ocean, bright blue skies, and diverse people/culture. Living in the midwest has been a great experience, but I miss urban dwellings and the sheer fabulosity of city life. I miss gay bars, drag shows, fashion, art, collective action, great food, and lots of beautiful people (esp. people of color).

If becoming a university professor doesn't work out, I would love to go into interior design...I'm obsessed with innovative and brilliant design and decor! I would also be perfectly content traveling the world and blogging about my experiences with amazing local food, music, culture, humor, history, politics, and drinks/cocktails. I'd also like to chronicle my discussions with people about their relationships (always a researcher at heart). Finally, I also think it could be great to become a professional best friend to celebrities like Beyonce, Oprah, Michelle Obama, and/or Angela Davis. How cool would that be?!
