First of all, Neil & Katie went out of their way to help us out, and I would give them six stars for that if I could. They were super responsive by text and everything worked out perfectly - thank you again guys, that was really kind of you.
The apartment is beautiful and is well represented by the photos. The living room window is right on Christopher street and it's super lively. Bedrooms are small but comfortable. The kitchen/dining area/living room is just cool - lots of good books everywhere and neat historical pieces on the walls. Everything was impeccably clean and convenient, and we felt right at home.
Two thumbs up, I highly recommend staying here if you're looking to experience the West Village.
The experience overall was really great! The apartment is at one of my favorite areas in town, walking distance to niche restaurants, bars, comedy cellar, shopping, big gay ice cream, etc. transportation is also very convenient. The antique decor of the spacious living room is gorgeous. However, the bathroom space is quite tight. Otherwise, great experience!
This apartment is perfect! Everything is clean, very good size for the location, the beds were comfortable and so close to food, entertainment and the subway.
Neil and Katie were great hosts, left a long list of restaurants and fun stuff close by to check out.
You are in a city, so there is some city noise late at night. I just downloaded a white noise maker app and slept like a baby : )
Great spot, well situated in the West Village and an ideal base for enjoying the neighborhood. Comfortable and well-appointed common areas for hanging out with cozy bedrooms in the back to rest. The 6 floor walk up to enjoy the view from the roof is totally worth it. Great option.
Neil and Katie were very accomodating. The place was in one of the hottest neighborhoods in NYC. It is VERY central to all the hottest bars, comedy clubs and restaurants in town. The location speaks for it self.
As for the actual apartment, it is impeccably and tastefully furnished. Two big beds for all your people. Everything you could possibly ask for in a New York City apartment.
For those people seeking "luxury" this is luxury of a different kind. You simply will NOT get the pristine amenities in this West Village neighborhood, the way the buildings are set up. Perfect showers, door handles and all that jazz are what you get in new high-rise buildings in Midtown, where all the tourists stay in their hotels. What you will get here is a very real, very NYC vibe, and if you're interested in experiencing what it's like to actually be a part of the culture in New York, this is where you must be.
Great location, cozy space, & loved seeing the Maize & Blue around the apartment! All the recommendations for places nearby were great too. Super thankful that Katie & Neil would take us at such short notice, as our flights back to Michigan were cancelled last minute due to the snowstorm on Super Bowl Sunday. Only complaint would be the bathroom could use a bit of renovation but not a big deal compared to how great the rest of the place was. Would definitely recommend to a friend & stay again.
This apartment is charming and nice but I would agree with other reviewers that "luxury" is not the right word. We stayed in it as two couples and it was perfect. The bedrooms are small but functional and the living room is fantastic! We spent the bulk of our time together there and it was perfect for 4 adults. The bathroom and kitchen are small but I am sure that is generally part of the New York experience. The neighborhood is fantastic! Bars, restaurants and cafes are everywhere. When you are in the apartment you are aware you are in the city: the Jazz bar behind you can be heard at night, you hear neighbors come and go and the subway rumbles underneath. All of this is why I airbnb! I want to experience a city like locals do and that I did. It was great! Also, Katie and Neil were fantastic! They left great notes on what to do/how to make use of all things in the apartment and when I ran into an issue with the door knob they were over in 10 minutes to fix it. In my mind this charming apartment is the perfect west village escape.
This is not a "luxury" apartment and really should not be advertised as such. It is a two bedroom apartment in a good location which will comfortably sleep 3-4 people, 5 at a pinch. It is ground floor and security seemed quite good. There are two beds, one in each bedroom, however in each case the beds are against one wall. The extra bed is an air bed. Floor space in the apartment is limited by general clutter as is wardrobe space. The bathroom is really basic and in need of complete renovation. Note there are no photos of the bathroom on the website. Noise from the bar nearby is a problem although our teenagers felt it was able to be managed with ear plugs. Once this stopped the rumblings from the very close subway took over! The kitchen is not set up for self catering. Overall we liked the location but just feel this apartment should be advertised more accurately. Katie and Neil did respond to us quickly.
We adored this flat in the West Village. It's an older building and the entry/communal hallway felt somewhat run down (the tenant trash bins inside are unfortunate) but the apartment itself is decorated beautifully and has tons of charm. Very clean. The beds are comfortable and so many of the things you'll need (hair dryer, iron, even lotion) are already there for your use. The bathroom is very small but as three girls we utilized the many mirrors and outlets throughout the apartment to get ready. The neighborhood is perfection. Very safe and convenient. You're directly across the street from mundane necessities like Dunkin' Donuts, CVS, and the subway. And then you're surrounded by block after block of gorgeous West Village brownstones, restaurants, cafes, bars, etc. So many options!
We were out late most nights so didn't have a problem with the bar noise some of the other reviewers had.
Our hosts were very responsive. When the shower head broke, Neil came over within a reasonable window and did a temporary fix. They were lovely to work with.
I would highly recommend this rental to anyone!
Thank you for the kind comments! The hallway bins are for recycling only ;-)
What a fantastic place to stay in NY. I'm not exaggerating when I say that the location was exceptional. It was close to some fantastic bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and is a fairly short walk away from any place you would want to go in mid-town Manhattan.
The beds are comfy, and the whole apartment has a great feel. Only thing we couldn't figure out is how to turn down the heat, so we were a little toasty the day we were there, but that's definitely better than the opposite of freezing our butts off.
Neil & Katie made it easy to coordinate our arrival and departure, and were incredibly responsive to my endless string of questions.
