Outdoor sort of chap with a passion for climbing.
We had a really lovely time in the gypsy caravan. Both Richard and Jan were incredibly welcoming and helpful and the caravan and private outside area was very thoughtfully set out. Well worth a visit.
We had such a great welcome from Richatrd and Jan, trully great hosts. Their house is very welcoming with a warm feeling.
We stayed in the Gipsy caravane which gave us a very unique experience of a B&B and we loved it, very different and cosy.
The breakfast we had was a superb English breakfast with eggs from their own chickens.
Only potential downside to note from the caravane:
1/ As there is no heating in the caravane, I would recommend stays during the summer or fairly warm springs
2/ A bit noisy with Heathrow airport being not too far, but ok during the nights once the planes are also asleep.
Apart from that an experience I would recommend, only a 5-min drive to Windsor and on the doorstep of the Cotswolds.
We had a great time at Richard's and Jan's place! They were very friendly and helpfull.
Old Windsor is a lovely place and the station is not far to go
to Londen down town.
Richard and Jan thanks!
I had a lovely welcome from Jan as always and I couldn't have been made to feel more welcome!
The caravan was a sweet little stay for our weekend for a friend's wedding in Windsor. It was easy to get there by bus from Heathrow, and also very convenient to get around on the bicycles they lent us (complete with an infant seat for our one-year-old daughter). It is a quick 4km ride to Windsor, which takes about 10-15 min.
Having come from Thailand via France, we were not quite so well equipped with camping stove etc, but our hosts were extremely hospitable and allowed us to use their kitchen to make breakfast and their bathroom in the house to shower. They also lent us a small refrigerator to keep some food in.
The caravan is in a really beautiful garden with a large grassy area, a swing set and some plump backyard chickens.
It was chilly outside, but the bed was warm and cozy. We were comfortable, even though the bed is a touch too small for two adults and an infant.
The composting toilet in the nearby shed (behind a patch of lavender and vegetables) is clean and odor-free.
The only minor drawback to the place is that Windsor is next to Heathrow, so there is the sound of planes passing overhead.
That said, we had a really lovely stay, and the whole experience was special for us and for our daughter.
We had a lovely quirky weekend stay in the gypsy caravan in Old Windsor. The whole set up is so thoughtfully done. Candles outside and in, a fire pit, lovely compost toilet all set in a pretty garden with land, chickens etc.
The caravan is really sweet and pretty and felt really special.
Jan & Richard gave us biscuits and welcome drinks and the vase of wild flowers was a lovely touch. As well as an afternoon cuppa and homemade cake. It was all so lovely.
We were provided with plenty of bedding as was chilly at night. The bed is a little on the small side, but good for cuddling up!
Jan and Richard were such lovely welcoming hosts and really added to the enjoyment of our stay.
We chose to have breakfast with them as an extra, which was homemade and delicious.
Thank you both.
Delightfully cozy and different, I loved the stay in your poetic little gypsy caravan! perfect weather, since it was a balmy late-summer evening. Indeed there are planes flying overhead, but they stop at 23:00 and don't start up again until 06:30 or thereabouts.
Your friend Hilary was most welcoming and friendly, please thank her for me as well.
Richard and Jan were delightful hosts. They made us feel very welcome and the caravan was very romantic! The area is close to Windsor - an hour or so walk along the river, or 30 minutes walk from the nearest rail station if you do not have a vehicle. There are limited places to eat nearby - bringing a picnic is recommended.
What a gem! Located super close to Windsor and Eton, this little place is something out of a dream. And Jan is SUCH an accommodating, lovely host (Richard was away but I'm sure he is, too!) Thank you so much for this experience!
Great and very convenient location and Jan went out of her way several times to make our stay even better. She is an amazing and generous host who makes a great cup of coffee, too! The caravan is very basic, but comfy and provides a truly unique experience. If one plans on falling asleep before around 1030, earplugs are handy owing to the jet noise form nearby Heathrow.
