Carolyn was extremely helpful whilst making the booking. And once we had arrived both Carolyn and her husband made us very welcome. They made several recommendations for a pub to have supper (I actually wanted to stay and eat Carolyn's food - but had my 23 year old son with me who wanted to sample the local beer!)
The house is lovely - could not recommend it more highly.
Thank you Carolyn
Thank you Tessa……. we loved having the boys!
'How did the host make you feel welcome?' - delicious home-made scones on arrival, that's how!
Our stay at Lower Buckton Country House was perfect. Carolyn and Henry were fantastic hosts, checking everything was okay with our stay throughout the weekend - and providing tea and coffee almost on-demand!
The house itself is a classic farmhouse for the area - large rooms, tall ceilings, etc - complete with a vast array of interesting and enchanting artworks that adorn every wall. Outside, a large yet enclosed garden opens out over a picturesque stream to a field of horses and the wide-wild country beyond.
The hamlet of Buckton consists of a single-track road, a couple of houses, and an old mill. Silent and still at night, it's a world away from the incessant noise of London, so much so that I found it hard to sleep on the first night - blame London though, not them!
The room was far bigger than the pictures on Airbnb show, with a neat little en-suite shower room in one corner, a large comfortable bed, and a wardrobe with a couple of (welcome) surprises.
A couple of miles from the nearest village (Leintwardine), which has a couple of restaurants and a must visit parlour pub, where you can sit and eat fish and chips from the local chippie. Ludlow isn't far either and offers walks, pubs, and more to eat. The local ruin of a castle at Wigmore is probably more in keeping with the rural location, quaint, isolated, and with incredible views of the rolling countryside.
Finally, save room for breakfast. So delicious, you'll want to eat every last piece, especially that (rare to find) bacon with the rind left on!
A wonderful weekend at Lower Buckton. Absolutely delicious food and a really relaxed and friendly atmosphere - nothing was too much trouble. We arrived and dined at the lovely long table with other guests, had great conversation + and were wonderfully looked after by Henry who also gave us advice on where to go cycling the following day and helped us fix our bikes before we left. We were greeted back from our cycle ride by Carolyn with homemade scones and jam in the sitting room. Overall a wonderful place to relax and be thoroughly spoilt, set in wonderful countryside and near to interesting places to visit.
we arrived very late and Carolyne did have the time to have a bottle of white wine with us. After a long journey it was like comming home. It was warm, quiet and familiar. The breakfast was wonderful. Carolyne is a nice host and it is a beautiful house in a paradies.
I spent a peaceful week at Lower Buckton spiced with country walks and great food. Carolyn is a lot of fun and really knows the local food in the delightful market towns of Shropshire. Don't miss her cooking classes and special dinners.
