Jocelyn was a great host -- didn't get to spend much time with Ted since he was away for the week. I enjoyed getting to know her, at least on my last day there! The room was nice and private up in the attic, nice also have a bathroom of my own (though not a shower), and the neighborhood was really great. I would definitely recommend this place, though one thing that was a slight problem was that my key sometimes didn't work in the front door. Luckily Jocelyn was home and could open the door for me! But that's my only word of caution. Otherwise it was a great place to stay.

Ted and Jocelyn were very friendly and extremely quiet. I was gone from 8:00am to 8:00 pm almost every night so I didn't see much of anyone. The house is quite small and the kitchen even smaller. Do not plan to cook here. The attic room I was given had the feel that it was someone else's room -not really even a guest room. The dresser was filled with clothes so I lived out of my suitcase for a week. I did have my own bathroom with a toilet and wash basin but I shared the downstairs shower. The bed was too soft for my liking and the pillows too big. I hit a hot spell in Portland so the room got up to about 85 degrees. There was a small air-conditioner, not quite flush with the window frame (ie. there was outside air coming in)but there was a fan over the bed that kept me cool enough. This was my first airbnb experience and I realize that I definitely need my own space equipped with a private shower and kitchen. This place was inexpensive, the hosts were friendly and they have two cute dogs but I would not choose this shared type of accommodation again.
Can't say anything bad about this place. The hosts were nice, the location was great, bed was comfortable, and two really cute dogs. Would definitely stay there again!
Ted & Jocelyn were perfect hosts. The room was very comfortable and a good size, we also had our own toilet and wash basin which came in handy! Easy to access the centre of town (and all the distilleries!) as bus stop is 5 minutes walk. Jocelyn was very insightful about Portland attractions and the locals ;)
Thanks for a lovely stay, Jay & Hannah.
It was a pleasure to stay with Ted and Jocelyn. I went to Portland for a conference and wanted accommodations that were nearby, economical, comfortable, and more or less private. Their place gave me all that I needed. The two of them were very welcoming and personable, while going on with their lives as usual and giving me space to do what I needed to do. They communicated with me by email and phone prior to my arrival, making sure I had the information I needed to find their place and that they would be there to greet me.
The room Ted and Jocelyn have to offer is upstairs, adjacent to a common area where there is a TV, but still rather removed from the main part of the house. (They watched TV a little while I was there, but the volume was very low and it wasn't at all disturbing to me and I'm pretty sensitive to sound.) There is a half bath with no shower off the common room. The bed was very comfortable, but on the soft side. Both the room and the neighborhood were very quiet. A short walk down Hawthorne will take you to some interesting shops, a great natural food store, and a coffee shop.
They do have two dogs and there was a familiar dog odor in the house, but they are well behaved and quiet. If you're a dog person, you'll probably like them.
It's not a fancy place, but it's clean, comfortable, and quiet. And you'll meet two lovely people!
Jocelyn was a perfect guest! She was clean, respectful and engaging. My only regret is that I didn't have more time to spend with her. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her and would love to host her again! Thank you, Jocelyn!
What can I say about my sister Jocelyn and brother-in-law, Ted???....They are pretty awesome! I've known Jocelyn my entire life believe it or not :) and lived with her until I was 17...she even took me in when i interned at Rutgers University while she was a student. Oh the fun! Ted has a witty sense of humor, loves my sister to pieces and both are fun-loving, down-to-earth people who have hosted me in their home many times.
I have to admit though my favorite part of staying in their home are the dogs--Umi & Inqui. LOL They looove me and although I'm a cat person they are definitely the best behaved dogs I've met.
If you're traveling through Portland and need a place to stay I highly recommend Ted and Jocelyn's home because its peaceful, spacious, clean and you might have a new bestie in both Inqui and/or Umi after you leave.
