The apartment was great! Great size great location and clean. It only took 10 minutes to walk to all the major sights, half hour walk to old town. A bunch of cool little restaurants between. Taner's mother was very helpful with everything. Overall another airbnb success!!
The location of the apartment is great. Less than 10mins walk to Blue Mosque/Hagia Sofia. The house is alongside an unused train track
The apartment itself is functional & very basic. The toilet takes getting used to. The Shower & Toilet are next to each other, so its mostly wet and feels unhygienic. If you are looking for something plush, then look elsewhere.
The hospitality was good. The host Mirai and her son Tansel did their best to make us comfortable. We had problems with the toilet plumbing . Additionally There was a Turkey wide power failure and they came right away to provide battery powered lights, ensure the boiler was ok,etc.
They provided basic breakfast items and also household cleansers.
In summary, it was an decent experience. But at an excess of £100 per night I found it on the expensive side.
Our stay in Turkey worked out best because of Ms. Kaya (Taner's mom). She was very sweet, understanding and caring. We had to reschedule our trip after we checked in because of the weather and she was very cooperative with us. She also brought us some warm clothes :-).
The house is very well located and has easy access to most of the historical monuments and tramway station. It is sufficient for 2 to 4 guests and also has a nice garden in the backyard overlooking the sea. Couldn't have asked for more.
This is a well kept and well sized place with a very warm and welcoming host.
Overall, we had a very good time at Sultanahmet Gardens. Communication with Taner and his mother was very easy and straightforward.
The pictures of the apartment are accurate, and it is off the right size for a couple. The kitchen supplies are a bit limited, but there are enough of them to do simple cooking for two people.
The bathroom layout is a bit baroque at first, but you get used to it after a while: the shower is separated from the toilets by a curtain, and the shower water evacuates through a hole placed beneath the toilets, which means that the floor is necessarily wet after a shower.
Going to the main touristic sites of Istanbul is a 10 to 15 minutes walk. From there, it is also easy to hop in a tramway to get to the "lively" part of Istanbul (near İstiklal avenue) where one will find many restaurants, pubs, and shopping centers. There are more restaurants there than in the quieter touristic area around the apartment. A taxi back home cost us approximately 8€.
The same tramway goes to Kabataş, where we went on a boat to travel the Bosphorus and go to the Asian side of Istanbul.
Last but not least, the bed is very comfortable, the WiFi works very well, and having a free phone to call local businesses saved us roaming costs.
We were made to feel very welcome by Taner's mother, and she continued to help us during our stay whenever we had any queries. The apartment although not luxurious was ideal for us, especially being so conveniently sited in Sultanahmet and only a short walk from the Blue Mosque and other tourist sites. We found the shower arrangement in the bathroom a little unusual but in fact it worked fine once we had got used to it.
The neighbourhood felt very safe, and we visited several good local restaurants , mostly ones recommended by TripAdvisor.
The best thing about staying here was the friendliness of Taner's mother, especially when we couldn't use the frontdoor key properly!
The apartment was roomy, and very close – five minutes walk – to key attractions and transport. We only saw the host – Taner’s mother – when we arrived and by chance one other time during our week there. She was welcoming and very helpful with maps and suggestions of what to do. The notes left by the owners were also helpful with directions of where to shop, good eating places etc. We found the location interesting and lively. The accommodation itself was adequate – comfortable bed, small kitchen, sitting room with TV – though rather dark being without external windows except on a narrow verandah, not a particularly welcoming place after a busy day. The bathroom took some getting used to, with an awkwardly placed shower, and a smelly toilet … it could definitely do with renovation.
We had a great time at Taner's apartment and would definitely recommend it!
Our flight arrived really late but Taner's mother waited up to give directions to our taxi driver and welcome us to the apartment. Taner was also very obliging when we asked for some extra plates and cutlery so we could enjoy more of a self-catering breakfast.
The neighbourhood is brilliant - it's walking distance to the Blue Mosque and lots of other interesting places in the Sultanahmet area. (It's not necessarily the best area for food as it's very touristy, but after one not-so-great meal we turned to the website (email hidden) for tips and found some amazing places through that.)
The room is exactly as it looks in the photos, but the terrace is even bigger than i'd realised - it's basically like a whole other room! And the view of the sea is fantastic. You have to cross a busy road to get to the path along the seafront but it's worth it, a nice place to stroll as the sun is setting and get a fresh grilled mackerel sandwich.
We had a wonderful first trip to istanbul and are already thinking about when we can go back :-)
Great location! It is an older but updated apartment, in keeping with an older neighborhood. Not much light. Very convenient to walk to almost all touristy places in older Istanbul. Tram is also not far and the Bosphorus is around the corner. The hostess is very helpful. Many shops and restaurants nearby. Lot of cats in the neighborhood! We had a great time overall.
Great place to stay. Taner's mother made check-in/out very simple and convenient. The apartment is spacious and clean, exactly as described. Location was perfect - a 5-10 minute walk to famous sites. I came into Istanbul from Ataturk airport using the metro system (~1 hour to the Sultanahmet stop), and it was an easy walk to the apartment from there once you get familiar with the streets. Highly recommend this apartment - it was perfect!
Excellent Experience. Entirely professional and communication was extremely smooth. Would recommend to anyone that requires a clean and professional guest. Thank you for staying with us, Feel free to contact us again in the future.
I've referred Taner's place to many friends who have stayed and came back with nothing but great things to say! There is a gorgeous view of the water from the window and the terrace is a great place to relax and eat breakfast. The family is wonderful and very hospitable. When visiting it's great to be near so many beautiful attractions-would recommend to anyone traveling to Istanbul!
Stayed here for three nights and had the best time! Definitely made my trip to Istanbul even better. The view alone was enough to make this place a worthwhile place to stay, and it was very close to many tourist attractions, which was very nice. Definitely recommend walking along the water during sunset for a beautiful view. Arrived to everything being clean and true to the pictures posted online. Fabulous hosts-definitely recommending to all my friends & family!
I've known the Kaya Brothers for almost 10 years now. They are both well educated and have great manners. I've also visited their place many times. It's a great location on the Historical Peninsula and I think the only one with such a big garden. I'm sure your stay there will be a great experience.
I'm Taner's brother. I'm a computer engineer from Istanbul. I'm also a city council member of Istanbul. During your stay I'll be responsible for your comfort. You'll be staying in the palace area and we promise your stay will be fit for kings.
