Come to Hawaii and experience the tropics. Great place to vacation by the ocean.
The ocean views and location met our expectations and we stayed a week. There were problems with the address given by Sandy, as it was different from the addess stated in the reservation confirmation. This caused us the greatest concern, as we already paid for the reservation in Sept 2013 and found out after arriving in Hawaii Feb 2014 that the address was completely different! Sandy expected me to download & print her new directions to the house and we didn't have access to a printer after just getting off the plane. What an aggravation this caused us during our vacation and wedding anniversary celebration! Also, the internet service is NOT secured and access is controlled by the upstairs renters. There is no local TV service and sadly, we missed seeing the Olympics, BBQing isn't allowed on the property and cooking is very limited without an oven. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay.
You can see fotos and think: beautiful pictures! but then you get there and are absolutly speechless!!!
Everything is really stunning!!!
The sea is close enough to touch. A black sand beach for swimming is located 3 min walk! may not be suitable every day: it depends on you and the size of the waves.
Hot springs for bathing: just up the road, about 10 min by car, perfekt to end the day,
a logoon for snorkeling with colorful fish, at the northern end of the road, about 25 min by car.
A café with delcious salads is at the southern end of the road; on the lava fields, where you can make walks.
Pahoa is a sleepy little western town with a large range of healthy and spiritual things. 45 min by car,
The house is perfectly decorated! you missed nothing! From the shaker to the espresso machine, nice dishes, all necessary cooking tools are available
and the best: you are at the end of the world and still has really nice landlord and cool neighbors.
Sandy is a invisible good spirit! If you have a question she is always right there for you.
It is simply perfect! You´ll never want to go home!
Sandy `s house has a special location! On the really botanical side of the island, directly on the sea, we have, in the really well-equipped house quickly settled in and enjoyed our holiday. The wildlife shows quickly and at night they are a great concert. Thank you Sandy for this great time with you!
Great place. One word: Amazing view and waking up every morning with the sound of the sea is a great pleasure.
Otherwise, the studio is clean and very well equipped.
The view from the porch was outstanding, right next to the water. Privacy was all you could ask for as we didn't see any neighbors. There was no swimming or way to get into the water, which was a little disappointing, but after getting to know the area and the big island that was understandable. Very nice and would not hesitate to recommend.
We spent a few days at Sandy's home and thoroughly enjoyed our time at her home. It is a perfect place to check out the lava fields, relax and enjoy the east side of the big island. The property is right on the lava cliffs. After a little rain the frogs will sing all night. As soon as we left the house we missed being there! Thanks for a wonderful addition to our honeymoon.
We really enjoyed our stay at this house. It offered the rustic "locals" environment we were seeking after too many nights at Hawaiian resorts. Access to the beach was great (even if filled with hippies), and the views of course were breathtaking. One thing I would caution any potential renter on is the access to groceries and services; Pahoa is a good half hour away, with a nice but overpriced "hippy-friendly" market. Be sure to stop off at Safeway or KTA on the way down for anything you want to cook, unless you want to shell out for "GMO-free" nonsense.
Overall, a fantastic place to spend some days away from it all!
What a wonderful hostess Sandy is! The accommodations were everything we were hoping for and more. You really need to sit on the lanai and see all of the sea life go by. We had a whale breach right in front of us....maybe 100 ft at best, which brought squeals of delight from all of us. We saw dolphin swim by and sea turtles. The location was ideal for us as we wanted to see the volcano, black sand beaches, volcano hot springs, water falls, etc. Sandy was even so wonderful as to let my son and his wife...coming from Honolulu ...stay with us a couple of nights and even set up a bed for them.
The noise levels at night, with the frogs and ocean waves were perfect for us, yet I can see some people being bothered with it. Then bring ear plugs, but you will be missing part of the experience. Also...it is incredible dark there, so if you are arriving at night as we were...with rain....it is difficult at best.
And there is no cable TV. She runs off of the Internet and the only TV was in the bedroom, which drove my other half nuts. There is also no cell phone service, so you are stepping a little bit back in time. I rather enjoyed it. She does have phone service which allows you to call anywhere in the US and Canada at no charge, so to me, that makes it worth it. I'm on (email hidden)t on my cell phone.
There was a wonderful little mom and pop restaurant in Pahoa called Pele's, kitchen, which we loved for breakfast and lunch. Lava rocks over by the volcano is another good choice.
Would I return to Sandy's again? Absolutely without a question.
I hope you really consider this gem at the sea.
I spent 6 lovely days in February in the 1 bedroom apartment. It is a bright and open space with light attractive furniture. The unit is tastefully decorated, kitchen very well equipped, bed is comfortable. Porch has great views over the ocean and the lava - and I even saw two whales pass by one day. I already look forward to coming back. Mahalo, Sandy!

We had the pleasure of staying in the studio apartment for a month after our wedding. It is in a beautiful area right on the ocean, rather secluded but exactly what we wanted. We both had some work to do so it was perfect since we had wifi and just enough space. We could spend the entire day on the lanai doing yoga, eating breakfast, working on our laptops and gazing at the gorgeous ocean. We also used the hammock and lounge chairs that were in front of the lanai.
The studio was small but comfortable. We had a nice size bed and a tv with netflix. We had use of the washer/dryer and a parking spot.
We cooked majority of our meals on the flat top stove, used the blender for smoothies and had a coffee maker. We frequented the natural food store in Pahoa about 10 miles away and the farmers market on Saturdays.
A clothing optional black sand beach is a stones throw away from the house. It was beautiful but not always swimmable.
Sandy the host is very accommodating. Thought she lived upstairs, you wouldn't know it. She was very respectful of our space.
We truly had a lovely time. Thank you!
