This really ended up to be a great trip! After some previous bad reviews I am happy to report we had a great experience in this cabin and one our family will always remember.
Just remember this is a rural and rustic experience. We stayed during Thanksgiving week, which means we shopped for, cooked and hosted Thanksgiving dinner here. Our guests loved the log cabin and stayed over night, one night. The dishwasher was broken, so I brought my own dish towels. Everything else was supplied. My husband and I stayed all week.
Dan the "zookeeper" was the best. I fell in love with one of the goats and she delivered twins on Friday. I wanted to take her home with me, and still hope to. Dan made our stay perfect and helped with all our needs.
The property is divided between a main house and the cabin, but there is so much room. Frank promised we would not be disturbed by any ATV's or people from the main house and he came through. We had complete privacy.
Keep in mind this is a farm. We loved it and feel they could further the farm experience by involving the guests with the daily farm activities, sort of an agri/tourist vacation.
We would definitely recommend Franks Cabin for your week in the woods.
My husband and I get about one weekend off together every 3 months, and we decided to make this a long weekend and get away somewhere quiet where we could enjoy the outdoors with our dogs. The cabin was well stocked and nicer than we expected inside. The property was not what we expected- the house isn't immersed in the 80 acres it's street front, and there isn't room to wander on the cabin property (it's all fenced in with sheep/goats). The pool/zoo/etc is on the neighboring property, which was occupied by the owners family while we were there. The first time we tried to explore the property our dogs were almost run over by an ATV, and the ATV's continued throughout our stay. We did not visit the zoo or that property again, however the ATV's were all over our property. There were people in and out of the garage directly in front of the cabin, they parked in our spot in front of the cabin, and teenagers were hanging out on the cabin property playing basketball right outside of our windows, riding ATV's around even though we asked them not to because we were worried about our dogs. There was also a hornet infestation in the cabin porch and master bedroom window, which to be fair if they aren't living there I wouldn't have expected them to notice. Overall it was a very disappointing and not at all serene or secluded experience. The family had no respect for us or our privacy, blatantly ignored our repeated requests for them to stop racing the ATV's next to the cabin, hung out in our yard as if we had no right to be there, and we left halfway through our stay. We contacted Frank and asked for a partial refund, which he quickly agreed to (half the amount we paid since we left halfway through), however we have not received this refund yet and it has been two weeks. If we get our money back then overall it was not a horrible experience, but it is not a place we would stay again. If the house on the neighboring property is empty while you are there it would be well worth it. But unless you are guaranteed that this will be the case, I would not recommend booking. If and when we get our refund I will update this to more stars, but as of now this was a terrible experience and I really wish we had chosen a different property.
The cabin was as described, secluded on a huge plot of land. Dan, the zookeeper, was the primary point of contact and relatively easy to get a hold of to arrange key pick up and answer other questions. He was in and out a few times to feed the animals on the property, but never intrusive.
We were able to get up close and personal with the animals, which we all enjoyed. The ostriches and goats were especially a hoot. I think several of the female goats were pregnant! We never had an opportunity to use the pool. It was located behind the other house on the property. I don't think anyone was there, but we weren't sure whether it was available for guest use.
The cabin had a great rustic feel to it but was lacking in a few places. The dishwasher was broken. Not a big deal, but there were no dish towels available to wash and dry dishes by hand. The cabin has beds for six guests, but there were only two bath towels. There were also only four forks. There was a lovely porch out back, but it was primarily being used for storage. Would be nice if that space was usable for guests.
That said, the beds and pillows were much better quality than what I expected. The laundry machines were also convenient. And for a cabin, it was pretty clean.
Overall, we had a nice time. Much to explore in the surrounding area and on the property itself.
good place, great description, and it was easy to contact Dan, it has pool, jacuzzi, zoo, absolutely perfect.
I recommend this place if you want to break with the city routine.
Perfect place for a relaxing family vacation, so close to NYC! We only left to get provisions (try Ritter's farmstand, great produce and homemade goods) and to visit the local county fair. Very quiet and private. We enjoyed sunny days in the pool and exploring the land, and beautiful evenings grilling and watching the light fade over the hills and forest. If you want to hang out inside, there are many comfy couches, wifi, and a new computer and printer set up for the guests. Beyond the farm and exotic animals, there are also many local critters that are fun to find, especially for a 7 year old boy, like baby frogs, newts (don't touch the red ones) and turtles. Dan, the caretaker, is very helpful and interesting to talk to. We are already plotting our next visit, maybe in the fall once the leaves change.
Well from the looks of the place and what I read about it it seemed to be amazing and seemed like I was going to have a great time. The day before I arrived I haven't heard anything for anyone about directions when I get their as far as getting keys ect. So when I finally get it contact with someone else the calling and texting repeatedly they asked me instead of checking in at 12 p.m. Is it possible i can check in at in 6 p.m. so the cleaning lady can do her job I was little upset that I had to swason entire day but as long as I have clean home im happy. To make a long story short when I walked into the house that has to be at least 10 dead flies and 40 of them flying around. NOTHING was clean. Their was mice droppings the pool and the Jacuzzi was a mile away and when I asked if it can be open it never was. My party and I had to make the best of a horrible situation. I was really disappointed and upset by everything and the was it was handled.
There is a lot of failure to communicate. This property belongs to Frank, however he is never the person you are corresponding with. We were promised a lot of things that we were to believe was from Frank but it was really from a guy named Joe. Dan is the zookeeper and the one that we had the most contact with. He was really not too helpful.
There were a lot of issues:
1. There are mice. Not only did we see one running around but there are also droppings all over the cabinets and drawers.
2. There is no toilet paper. There was half a roll in the bathroom upstairs but none at all downstairs. There was a mouse chewed commercial sized roll in the pantry but that was surrounded by droppings too.
3. Dishwasher is broken. There is some weird brown residue inside and a load white powder that I am assuming is dishwasher detergent.
4. We have been in touch with Dan but he seemed not too pleased to help.
5. There were no forks, only spoons. Also no clean sponges.
It wasn't until the next day in the afternoon did a housekeeper come and did a cleaning but the promised exterminator never showed up.
Saturday of our visit, we have had issues with vehicles driving down the paved driveway. The golf cart was driven by nine-year-old with a five-year-old as a passenger in the back and the ATV had 13 year-old driving at about 15 miles Per hour. The noise alone refutes our desire to be part of nature and away from the city.
But more importantly we have four children aged 3 and under and would really not want any incidents or accidents. We have spoken to the kids, and they have told us that they will try and stay away but that did not happen. I complained to the "owner" but the person I thought was the owner informed me that the owner's son was staying there. We spoke with the kids again and this time as they were driving away, the oldest one says, " we are the owners, you are only renting here." We happen to cross paths with the owner and he was unaware of what was going on. Ultimately the cabin is beautiful. The land is massive. The zoo was impressive.
But considering all the other things we had experienced, we will never return. It was just not worth the safety of the kids, especially at $199 a night. I think we deserved better! We felt cheated of our time because the main house where the pool is was occupied that weekend so we really did not get to go to the pool or Jacuzzi for over half the trip. Maybe if they really take into consideration all that my review entails, it will be a great property to visit once again. Sadly, the owner will probably never see this review. Proceed with caution!
All six guests concur that Frank's place is an enchanting getaway for both adults and children! We all enjoyed interacting with his animals & checking out his beautiful grounds. The aesthetics of the log cabin were amazing and it came with most of your necessary amenities. There were a few critters getting at our goodies, but this is to be expected from a log cabin on an 80 acre farm. As a host, Frank was responsive to our needs and immediately responded with answers & solutions to our inquiries. We loved Frank's place & hope to visit again!
This place is amazing .... To say the least ... I have rented many different houses throughout the years and this is by far one of the best ones . The kids loved it , it's very relaxing ... and the outdoor space is huge ...There is a farm . A zoo .... A pool ... A lake with ducks .... And yes all to yourself .... This is a treasure hideaway that we discovered this summer and will be back many more times .
Where to begin? This place is exquisite to say the least. The cabin is beautiful, clean, spacious and fully stocked.
The zoo on site is eden on earth. Its such an amazing site. The kids had a blast. The pool, hot tub, lake and tree house..... Its the all inclusive vacation ( minus food) .
We will definitly be coming again!
