Our stay at Julia's was really great! We didn't get the chance to meet Andrew and we saw Julia just two days cause she went back to her family for christmas holidays but she was very friendly with us, she answered all our questions very nicely and made confortable.
Our room was smaller than we expected but it was good enough for the two of us there was enough space to put our stuffs and the bed was good. The appartement is great, we felt like home!
Artoo is a really sweet cat if you love cats as we do you're gonna enjoy your stay, we definitely recommend you to go at Julia's.
Andrew and Julia are a very warm and welcoming couple! They were very helpful and accommodating. They also responded very quickly to my emails and questions about how to find their place and questions about the neighborhood. The location is fantastic because it's near the subway and there are lots of restaurants nearby. I felt very comfortable while staying with them and I really appreciated the quiet, as I was preparing to present at a conference. It was easy to walk around and if you're going to Columbia University, it's only about a mile away. I would highly recommend staying with them!
The place is smaller than it looks in photos, but nothing major. The hosts were very helpful when I need to get directions or advices about transportation. The place was clean, but the pillow had a bad smell.
It was me and the cat for a few days and had no problem with it.
Well located, near to subway station and looks like secure.
Andrew was a super host... Very helpful with ideas ,directions and recommendations etc.,unfortunately we did not get to meet Julia. The apartment was tiny and clean and organized ( very quiet) so much so
That we seemed to sleep to late each day. The area was super accessible to all major transportation .... We really enjoyed Andrews recommendation for THE ABSOLUTE BAGEL SHOP on broadway between 108-107str
We also like The Harlem Food bar on 113(?) (Jessie was great)
One word: Perfect, pareja encantadora y dispuesta a ayudarte en todo lo que necesites!! Tus vecinos perfectos!! Muchas gracias por todo!!
The apartment is well located. It is close to 3 subway stations, giving access to several different lines. In addition, it is very close to central park and the West Side, that we like enough to visit.
They were kind to receive and store our orders.
The room available is small for a couple, considering that there is not enough space to open one suitcase and the space below the bed and the closet are partially available for guests. We had to organize our luggage and room daily to get some space to pass.
There is no street noise, however, there are some doves in the window that make too much noise at night. We couldn't see the weather from the windows (also no good clarity), because there is a building in front of the windows.
When we walked through the house, the floor was noisy, so we were afraid to wake them up when we arrived late or left early.
We can say that the shared bathroom does not bring much privacy, because we have to share the time of use, including during the morning when we need to get to the attractions and they get ready for work. In other times, privacy is also hampered because the bathroom and mirror stay in front of the room.
The bathroom is not very hygienic, the box of the cat is in the bathroom and cleaning utensils are washed in the bathtub. There were times when we'd take a shower and the bathtub, sink and toilet wasn't clean. Towels are not in a proper place to dry (behind the door, for lack of space).
During the 15 day stay the bathroom and the room had not been cleaned, and the towels and sheets were not changed. The room carpet was dirty. We've found on the floor a bill from the previous guest and spare clothes behind the bed.
The cat likes to stay in the guest room because of the pigeons that lay on the window.
We consider the location of the apartment promotes locomotion, but the size of the apartment does not bring privacy and comfort for guests. We think the photos do not match up very well.
Good place. It is a small but well located room in the upper west of Manhattan. The hosts are very friendly. I totally recommend this place...the cat is very friendly too!
I've enjoyed a lot of my period in NYC with J& A Smalley. They're very kind.
Everything went just fine. The hosts were travelling on the day we arrived, but they had arranged someone to be there, so it was all very smoothly. Good apartment with a nice cat and we were very confortable.
For our trip, Julia was out of town, so we were greeted by Andrew, who told us everything we needed to know for our stay. Julia had even left us some Dutch waffles to make us feel at home! Really nice of her.
The apartment was super clean, towels, washcloths, umbrellas and everything were ready for our use in the guest room. Artoo (the cat) does indeed have a tendency to snuggle into your suitcase if she gets the possibility, but she's easy to keep out.
The neighborhood is also clean and friendly. Some nice bars and restaurants are really close (ask Andrew or Julia for their recommendations, they know a lot about it). We did not feel unsafe for even a single second throughout the entire city, actually. A great 'local' restaurant was Jacob's Pickles, recommended by Andrew. Definitely a great spot with great food.
Lastly we were very happy with the bikes! Andrew and Julia give you the opportunity to ride their bikes through the city, provided with safety lights and good locks. We had so much fun exploring the city this way! It's cheap, quicker than you'd think and you get to see so much of the city! Cruising through central park and seeing the skyscrapers rise above you until you're at the Plaza Hotel is just amazing.
All in all, we would definitely recommend staying here. Andrew is very easy-going and glad to help you out with restaurants or sights, the room (and the rest of the apartment) is very clean and the bed was perfect for two. We'll be back!
It was fantastisch to find my house superclean and tidy after my guest where gone.
They also had à very nice contact familie living in the village, so when they had flight delay there was someone to pick up the key, super!
More than welkome any time!
Kind Regards Linda. ;-)
Julia and Andrew were great guests. Clean, considerate, and very easy to communicate with. They're welcome back anytime!
Julia & Andrew were really cool and relaxed, we had a few emails to co-oridnate their arrival, and then that was it. We had a couple of notes checking in to make sure everything was fine, then they just checked out London. Pleased to recommend them to other hosts, perfect guests.
Stayed here when I was in grad school at Columbia, in between moves, and desperate for a nice apartment close to campus. I had been friends with Julia and Andrew for years, and knew I could trust them. They keep things simple and easygoing. The apartment itself is very comfortable, and Andrew and Julia make you feel right at home. The whole place looks newly renovated and puts most mid-size apartments in Manhattan to shame. To top it off, it's in a great spot in Harlem with awesome food all within 2-3 blocks of the apartment. And you're down the street from central park! Ok, that's it, planning my trip back to NYC right now...this place alone makes it worth it!
If you are looking for a comfortable, convenient place to stay in Manhattan, look no further. My husband and I have visited this space 6+ times, and were never disappointed with the accomodations, proximity to sights, great local resturants, and most importantly fantastic hosts. Andrew & Julia are NYC experts and can help you get anywhere you need to go in the city or beyond. I highly recommend taking advantage of this awesome space!
