Hi, I'm a friendly, intellectually curious world traveler who is finally stepping into the 21st century and giving airbnb a try. I've spent my life divided equally between Dallas, Manhattan, Los Angeles, and Berkeley. I work in San Francisco 5 days a week (sometimes 6...yikes!) and all this working is seriously putting a damper on my global travel. Thus, I recently committed to taking at least one quick trip a month to some nearby cities to satisfy my travel bug. This is where airbnb comes in.
As a guest, I'm highly independent, self-sufficient, and very respectful. When I stay in someone else's home, I behave as if I'm staying at my boss' home. I like to leave people feeling disappointed to see me go and looking forward to my return. In case my name doesn't give it away, I'm female, 45 years old, I rarely consume alcohol (as in less than 3 oz a year), and I don't smoke anything. (I feel like I need to emphasize this since I live in Berkeley)
Aside from global travel, my passions are SCUBA diving and snorkeling, exploring the world's great art museums (I was a volunteer at the Getty for 2 years), and checking out cool places I've never visited on (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Earth when I can't get away. I also love to snowboard and head to Tahoe, when I can, or to Telluride, if I'm really lucky.
When work permits, I'm a nite owl. When work demands it, I'm an early bird, but rarely happy about it and usually too groggy to seek out the worm. I thrive in sunshine and miss living in the fabulous SoCal weather. Fog is so overrated. If I had one day left to live, I'd spend it in Manhattan. If I had one last meal to eat, I'd have dinner at Joe's Restaurant in Venice. I never tire of listening to OK Computer, Boston, or Billie Holiday's Greatest Hits.
Favorite cities I've visited: Paris, Sydney, London, Brussels, Rio, Ubud, Big Sur, Tokyo, Zurich, Athens, Miami, Sao Paulo, Taipei, Melbourne, Vancouver, Telluride, Gove, Quebec City, and pretty much all of Kau'i, Mau'i, O'ahu, and the Big Island. In all fairness, Washington D.C. and Chicago are both pretty cool, but the weather...ugh!
Favorite Books: anything written by David Sedaris, Frommer's Travel Guides
Favorite Music: M83, Radiohead, Kings of Leon, Bjork, Wombats, Killers, Boston, The Naked and Famous...and I love, love, love Spotify and KCRW.
Fav food: Mexican food, Breyer's Ice Cream, Foie Gras, Macarons, English Breakfast Tea (I know, I (URL HIDDEN) a beverage...but I love it)
Fav TV shows: Imagemaker and Globe Trekker (PBS), Big Bang Theory (I have Seasons 1-6 on DVD) and I never tire of watching Seinfeld, King of Queens, or Everybody Loves Raymond (because I miss living in Manhattan)
Favorite Movies: American Beauty, Brokeback Mountain, The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, 40 Year Old Virgin, Kissing Jessica Stein, Sense and Sensibiity...anything by Wong Kar Wai or Ang Lee
Guilty pleasures: Nordstrom, having my eyebrows waxed, driving to LA to have my hair highlighted
Favorite mode of transport: subway, Boeing 777, Eurostar, automobile
Don't tell anyone, but: I am the WORST longboarder ever...seriously.
Thanks for reading! I'm excited to be on airbnb!
