Hello! Although I originally hail from Beautiful British Columbia, I now live in the heart of the San Juan Mountains. I am a homeschooling mom and writer who loves to travel and learn from and about different cultures.
I received my BA Honors from the University of British Columbia in history. As a university student I was always asked what I wanted to be when I "grew up" (which hasn't quite happened yet) and I would answer, "Umm...be a Professional Student?" That is exactly the life I live now, twenty years later! In addition to teaching my own kids (which forces me to relearn all the things I failed to learn the first time around), I'm currently dabbling in film making, especially utilizing film for educational purposes.
I love meeting new people and learning to see the world from other points of view. I've trekked in Nepal, squeezed myself onto crowded Jeepneys in the Philippines, braved the London Tube, breathed in fresh air from the top of a castle in France, walked across a broken wall into East Berlin a year after it came down, and cleaned up after the rich in an Alpen hotel. My kids have grown up eating momos, lumpia, and tikka masala.
I've had a long-term love affair with music (apparently I sang myself to sleep at 3) and am currently a member of our church band, where I play keyboards and sing. I clean and cook with strains of Nickelback, Lifehouse, and Fuel blaring from my speakers. However, although I admit to being a rockaholic, I do occasionally dabble in New Age, Classical and Nat King Cole.
In essence, I love people of all shapes, sizes, faiths, unfaiths--the joyful, the depressed, the chaotic. All are welcome at my door. Let's have a cup o' coffee and chat, shall we?
