For those who are coming here by train and don't wish to take a bus or taxi, it's really easy. I had a hard time coming here initially due to my limited understanding of the transportation network but for those who are planning to stay at Sumire's place, here'(email hidden).
Buy your ticket for Kashiijingu station if you are coming from Hakata or whichever JR line. Upon reaching Kashii station, get off, cross the bridge and go to either platform 3 or 5. You've got to check the timetable to see when your train arrives and also which platform to get on the train. Get off one stop later at Kashiijingu station, exit the station and cross the road. Turn towards your left a little and walk straight through the narrow road. Turn right only at the 2nd bend (the one along the main road). From there, it's really easy as you just have to follow the road leading to the house. Just use the electrical cable tower and elementary school that is on the opposite side of the road as your markers. You'll reach the place in 7 -10 mins of walking. Don't bother wasting money on the bus if you plan to travel a lot since it's so convenient. When in doubt, use (website hidden) maps. :)
I enjoy staying with Sumire and her family, and even though it's a little cramped, it's still cosy. You'll enjoy interacting with her two lovely cats especially Mocha who constantly mews for attention. Sumire speaks excellent English and I'm sure you'll enjoy communicating with her.
Sweet woman and a great host with lovely pets and children. Room is spacious.
We spent a great time at Sumire's home. We arrived late and left early but she waited for us. The place is very convenient from the airport because it's only 20 minutes by taxi. The room was clean and quiet, we slept well. She also has two adorable cats.
Thanks for welcoming us!
Sumire and her family are very kind and great hosts. She speaks English very well, and is more than happy to show you around. Also, if you like pets, you'll feel right at home with a dog (Collin) and two cats (Mocha and Chocolat).
Her house is in a residential neighborhood that's not really close the downtown Fukuoka. It is very close to a small train station, which makes it fairly easy to get there.
We had spent great time staying in this place! It had such a beautiful neighborhood that we could enjoy walking by seeing the view. It would be great to stay here if you want to experience calm and nice village.
Sumira was a lovely host, I had a great stay and she was sweet enough to show me around the city. We went to the beach where I saw starfish in the wild, clam digging, and had okonomiyaki for dinner which was the best. She has a Shiba Inu as well, such a cute dog.
My only concern was cleanliness, I was hoping for a cleaner place, not sure that met the hospitality standards.
Beyond that, I had a lovely stay.
Sumire, and her family are awesome (The cats as well), she is a really nice and caring person, she took us out to sushi with and another guest and recommended some great place to eat and see around Fukuoka City. The bedroom was great that had tatami mats and, the station under 10 minute walk, i definitely recommend sumire and will definitely go back next time im down in Fukuoka. Thankyou!
A good place to crash for the night. However, other guests should be quiet after 12 am for other people to sleep. Otherwise, a warm house.
I stayed at Sumires place for three nights. There are not enough good words to explain how nice of a host Sumire is, how accomodating and at home she makes you feel. Her family are great, the house is lively with travelers and animals and kids alike. Cannot recommend this place enough and I will surely visit again!
Sumire and her son are good my good friends and guests. I am a host and guest of her. It is a great pleasure to meet Sumire. Sumire is not a typical tourist, but a true traveler who wants to explore local culture. If you are a host who wants to mingle with guests, Sumire is a prefect guest! Best guest and host ever!
Sumire was a really nice guest~^^
I'd like to see her again~
Sumire and I met through another accommodation service in 2009 when me and a friend were travelling through Japan. She is the most amazing host and even named her dog after me!!! Before meeting Sumire, I told her what we wanted to do while in Fukuoka, and she made it all happen magically! We went to onsen EVERY day, and she even bought a book to find the most wonderful and unique onsens in the country - even ones that burn tender parts of your body!!! If you have a chance to stay with Sumire, I highly recommend her as a host, but most of all, as a wonderful friend.
I and my brother stayed in her house last summer, and it was super experience. She was one of the nicest person i ever met. She showed around the city. She knows many things about her city and has a bunch of funny stories. so with her, time would pass so fast. She is so friendly person who has a warm heart. we found an abandoned cat in the street at that time, she finally took the cat to her home and took care of.
Sumire-San, Where should I begin ... lol, she just took the role of helping my friend and I out with every crazy idea that came into our minds, always wanting us to stay more time at her house, and made us feel like her sons. Definitely a great friend and a person you want to meet, such a experience. If Fukuoka is your next destination Sumire-san's is the place to go to :D
In this spring, I had a great time with her and her family,
It was my first trip to travel myself, but i couldn't get any fair, I feel so comfortable in this mood, I've stayed few days left for my trip, her Okonomiyaki was the best I >-</
Im not good at english, hard to express whole things I felt(but If you're a korean I can say details, connect me haha, joke), she knows everythin of Fukuoka, sure you will get special memories of your Fukuoka travel.
Sumire is very heart warm, well hospitality and friendly person.
If you visit her house, you will feel at home and enjoy Fukuoka city life with her and her family members and friends.
I visited her house with some traveler and had a really good time.
Thank you so much! Sumire-san.
We are looking forward to seeing you again in the near future.
I was a camp counselor for the Guy Healy Foundation and met Sumire.
And I have to tell you she is Awesome! She is very caring, well organized, attentive to details, and lots of fun! She is also responsible in the sense of: she's the first one there caring for things, and the last one to leave and make sure everything is squared away.
I would definitely recommend Sumire 110% !!! d-(^_^)-b
"If you go to Fukoka you have to spend some time with Sumire if you dont stay at her home" this is what I told a friend when last year decided to travel to Japan. I stayed in Sumire's place for 4 days and I lived like at home. She gave me very useful insights about Japan and Kyushu in particular. I have the luck that she have time to teach me how to prepare Japanese gyozas, that I really like to do nowadays for my friends. Her place is 5 minutes walk from a JR station in a very quiet place.
I highly recommend that you should meet up with Sumire if you are planning to go to Fukuoka.
I met her when I was traveling Fukuoka. During those days, I was feeling like that I am a part of her family. That was a great expierence for me. And now we are good friend XD
Sumire is one of the nicest persons I met in my travels and the days spent with her in Fukuoka were absolutely great.
it's funny and I feel a bit awkward writing a recommendation here thinking about how we met. I feel like a football player welcoming a new team member I met in another team, in another days.
but the bottom line is : go to Sumire's, you'll love the moments spent with her !!!
just don't expect to be in a hotel since it's MUCH MUCH better than that and certainly also MUCH MUCH better than any other guesthouse.
Sumire must be an unofficial ambassador for Fukuoka, for she has hosted and shown great hospitality to so many guests who have been fortunate enough to have stayed with her. She kept a guestbook which meant I was the 230th guest and I stayed with her for five nights. It was my first time in Japan, and she was so kind to bring my luggage from the airport and offer tips and information to places where I wanted to go. She also prepared breakfast and offered medicine when I was a bit down. Besides, staying at her place is a meaningful experience as you get to meet her family, her cute pets and learnt more about her life and cultural experiences. Her place is also located 5-10 minutes away from the JR train station as well as a shrine which makes the stay even more worthwhile. Please do not hesitate to head for her global village if you are going to stay in Fukuoka for a while! Certainly offers much more than the hotel experience :) Thank you Sumire!! :)
