Kelly and her beautiful family were very friendly and welcoming. Kelly herself is very sweet and accommodating. She gave us tips on where to eat and drink in her wonderful neighborhood right near the Alberta strip. She gave us access to the kitchen, not fully but enough for basics. She has three kids so her kitchen is her battle station.
The room itself is like a mini-apartment. It's in the basement but does not feel dank and dark at all. Instead it feels bright and cozy. The bed is plush. The first night we slept about 9 hours, very unusual for us. The private bathroom was wonderful to have.
It is a great home with a wonderful host in a cool neighborhood to explore.
Just a great location and hostess. We will definitely stay again!
Although we haven't seen Kelly that often (we've only stayed two nights and have been out of the house really often), we've gotten to know her as an outstanding person with great tips to go in Portland.
The house is just a few blocks away from Alberta Street where you can easily find a great place to have some drinks or eat something (for all upcoming Guests -> Don't miss "Mash Tun" one of the best burger i've ever had and as well some really good self brewed beers).
The room gives you a lot of privacy with enough space to empty your bags completely. The private bathroom did easily fit for 2 people.
In general if you plan to stay in portland go to Kelly
Kelly is the quintessential host of our ERA! She was amazing. My friend and I stayed in her basement for about 5 days and it was amazing. Very spacious and cozy. Ping pong table, full bathroom, tv, and a couch; what more could you ask for? Kelly shared with us some of the hot spots around the Alberta Arts district and recommended a restaurant that changed my life. Her kids were there that weekend and were awesome! Overall, my first trip to Portland wouldn't have been a success without her and her suggestions. I will definitely go back and stay with her and suggest you do the same.
Kelly was a sweet and gracious hostess, and was able to book us on short notice. The bed is heavenly! A very private and restful stay. Loved the neighborhood, and it was fun walking to Alberta St. and trying all sorts of delicious goodies.
We stayed here for our friend's wedding. The house and yard are beautiful and Kelly is a wonderful host. Even though we maxed the place out (7 people) we did not feel short on space at all.
Short walk (<10 min) to Alberta street, which is like a mini downtown area for this neighborhood, with plenty of unique shops, bars, and restaurants.
Kelly's house is lovely and in a great neighborhood. She was a very good host: gave clear instructions and was very welcoming and we had a terrific time. We would definitely stay in her place again if it worked out.
The perfect place to stay to experience Portland like you live there.
We were traveling to visit friends, and they had recommended staying near the Alberta Arts District. This house was in the perfect location. It's on a nice, quiet street and surrounded by a great neighborhood – lots of shaded streets, nicely kept homes. And with all the beautiful gardens growing everywhere, we joked that you could feed yourself by walking around and picking all the vegetables and fruit. Plus, it was less than a 10 minute walk to the great coffee shops, restaurants and bars on Alberta. (If you go, make sure to grab coffee at Barista and waffles from The Waffle Window).
The house itself was great. Very nicely kept and clearly renovated, but still with the feeling of a classic Portland home. We were traveling with 2 small children, and they loved the home. Kelly, the owner and host, had all kinds of fun toys that she left for them to play with - and our daughter loved the swing in the basement. The fire pit in the backyard was great to sit around in the evening as well.
In short, if you want an authentic Portland experience – i.e., living in a neighborhood that feels more residential than touristy – this home is a great find.
We have had extremely good luck with all of our home/apartment rental experiences in many cities. This lovely home in NE Portland exceeded all our expectations. It was beautifully appointed, with large rooms, comfortable furniture and beds, excellent bathrooms, a very nice kitchen, and a very private back yard.
The gardening in this neighborhood is an out of control paradise. It's like all the flowers are on steroids, you almost need sunglasses for all the brilliant colors and plantings. The location was perfect on our rental bikes we got for the week from Everybody's Bike Rental, a few short blocks away. Grocery shopping was easy, so we ate in about half the time. Both Alberta Street and Mississippi Ave were short rides away, and total hipster enclaves of coffee shops, restaurants, juice bars, resale and new clothing stores and more, but not as touristy or expensive as the Pearl District. We did the 40 mile loop one day on bikes by going north to the Columbia River, then south along 205, then back towards downtown on the Clearwater Trail, till we hit the Willamette River, rode through downtown and back to our lovely house. Beware, there is always one killer hill at the end of those long bike rides (you can walk it if you're not in shape).
Kelly is a nice guest. They informed us well about their arrival and they are respectful. They left our condo clean.Welcome back anytime!
Kelly was a pleasure to host. In every way. Great fun personality. Respectful and gracious with all of the staff. We were lucky to have her.
It's always a pleasure to accommodate nice and enthusiastic guests. Kelly definitely belongs to that category. Her stay was short (she has to catch an early flight) but she left a very pleasant impression. I do recommend her to other hosts.
Kelly and her daughter have been some great guests, fun and very enjoyable. Too bad you were recently in Seville. I hope to see them again.
