David's place was pure charm, a very private sanctuary tucked into a hillside on a quiet and lovely residential street in the Hollywood Hills. The fire was cozy on cool December nights and the kitchen, though compact, was well equipped and functional with new appliances. With a huge skylight and bay windows in the main living area and clerestory windows in the grand bathroom with sunken tub, the place was light and bright and homey.
Before we arrived, we had a (website hidden) introduction and tour of the apartment and David kindly made arrangements to meet with my sons to pass over keys, and give a operations guide on the various features.
David is a considerate host and made us feel very welcome. He was going abroad and put us in touch with Bobby, the owner of the house. There were a couple of glitches - beyond anyone's control - but each one was quickly sorted out by Bobby who was always a text or phone call away.
There was always parking on the street within several feet of the door. The Hollywood Hills trail entrance was an easy walk away (or you could drive and park) and provided hours of gorgeous hiking - right up to the HOLLYWOOD sign. Short blocks away on Franklin was Gelson's grocery store, a terrific cafe with specialty wines, beer and other delicacies as well as a super raw juice bar and several cool eateries.
Franklin Village is a super part of Hollywood and is a short distance to the Griffith Observatory. In our two weeks there we made friends in the community and felt quite at home. Loved the neighbourhood!
