My husband, Terence and I are both native Portlanders. I was born here and his family moved here when he was just 6 months old. We’ve lived in a few other places, but came back here to stay about 23 years ago. We couldn’t stay away! We’ve been married for 29 years and have 4 grown children, 2 married, and 2 new baby granddaughters.
Terence is a corrections officer for Multnomah County. He works at night, so he is usually asleep during the day, but you will probably see him in the evening at least some of the time. He is also the bishop of our ward at church, so he keeps very busy! He loves woodworking, outdoor activities like hiking, camping, rock climbing and scuba diving, and football. He has traveled to Spain and Mexico and has lived in Provo, Utah and Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he served a 2-year mission for our church.
I am at home full-time (this house and all its goings-on keep me pretty busy), but I am also a licensed esthetician. I hope to open a salon on one of the lower levels of the house. I love movies, horseback riding, hiking and traveling and have traveled to Japan, Mexico, Canada, Germany and France. I have lived in Provo, Utah, Boise, Idaho, Reno, Nevada and Chicago, Illinois where I served a Spanish-speaking mission for our church. Before hosting with Airbnb I hosted over 300 exchange students in our home over a period of 8 years, so people from all around the world call me “Mom”!
Our dog, Maggie, is a Jack Russell Terrier. She thinks she runs the place! We adopted her from Life for Paws, who rescued her from a California shelter. We don’t know her background, but it has been estimated that she is about 10 or 11 years old. We have had so many different people live with us since she’s been here that she immediately accepts all new arrivals as part of the family.
Mijo is our Blue-fronted Amazon Parrot. He has been with us for 23 years. He likes to laugh like my daughters and I and cry like a baby, so if you hear a baby in the house, it is probably just the bird! He also loves to whistle and often composes his own melodies. He loves visitors, but if you stick your finger in his cage, he may bite, so be careful!
We also have a horse, but of course, he doesn’t live here. He boards at stables in Washington, about 20 minutes from here.
We have 5 guest rooms in our home and they are usually full! Most of our guests are students and interns who stay with us for a month or more, but we host short-term vacationers in-between, too. Our guests have been AWESOME and have all gotten along fabulously, so there is a real community feel in our home.
We have hosted with Airbnb for over a year now and we love it!!
