Whidbey Island, WA, USA
We had a wonderful time celebrating our anniversary in Greenbank at Missy & John's cottage and lodge. It was the perfect location on the island to get out and explore, as well as stay in to get some much-needed R&R.
They greeted us with a basket of delicious apples and a lovely bottle of wine, which we paired with some cheese, crackers, and meats from the nearby Greenbank Farms. We had a fantastic evening in front of the wood-burning stove in the lodge, made all the more cozy by the comfy chairs, games, mood lighting and candles throughout.
The cottage is adorable, and had everything we needed. The bed is incredibly comfy, and together with the quiet, we slept like logs. We felt very comfortable and connected to our surroundings.
We are especially thankful that Missy & John opened their place to our two dogs. They had a wonderful time on the island at the nearby off leash areas and sitting by the fireplace in the lodge on the cold evenings. Missy & John even had little doggie biscuits and a few extra supplies on hand just in case we forgot anything. It was a true family vacation for us.
The surroundings are beautiful, and we loved feeding the apple cores to their goats each morning. I would definitely stay again next time we visit the island!
This is an absolutely wonderful place to stay. The bed was supper comfortable and the property was amazing. The grass trails were great for walking my dog. This is the best place I have ever stayed on Whidbey Island for a very reasonable price. Our stay could not have been better.
Wildberry is our kind of place! Relaxed, easy, a little bit different, 100% memorable. We loved sleeping in the cottage, dining in the studio, sitting in the garden and walking the property; the dogs loved chasing rabbits (should we say this?), and chatting with the very blase goats. The location was perfect: vacation-close to everything, but far enough away to be away; good restaurants and supermarket within 5 minutes; other good restaurants within 15 minutes. It's a big island and there is plenty to see and explore; the towns are fun to wander in. The cottage and the studio are 150m from the owners' residence, clean and comfortable, a little funky (if you don't want that, stay somewhere totally predictable); good wifi; and John and missy are wonderful and generous hosts. So, why only 4 stars? Because it is nice to have a goal!
We stayed for a week at the Wildeberry Cottage and loved it! The cottage was perfect - immaculate, super comfy bed with soft sheets, and an excellent shower with great water pressure and soft towels...much better than anticipated! The cottage is small but not cramped, with plenty of room for us and our young son. We also had the use of the other building, set up as a great room, so we had more space than we needed for sure. The location was perfect, very close to shopping and convenient to explore all of Whibey (we had a car and would recommend one as well unless you are AVID bikers!). Our hosts were lovely! They were super friendly and greeted us when we arrived, and gave us a tour of the property. They made a point to check in with us during our stay without being intrusive, which is a hard balance to achieve. They even arranged for us to meet some locals that we had heard about from a blog, which was incredibly kind of them and definitely above and beyond what we were expecting. Overall we were extremely pleased with our stay and recommend it 100%. You will love it!
The location of the cabin is great for those who want to explore both Langley and Coopeville. It is pretty much in the middle of both towns. The place is comfortable if you are going solo and have a dog. There is plenty of outdoor open grass area. Not ideal if you are in to cooking meals. Very small dorm size refrigerator in the cabin. There is gas grill outside. If you are a light sleeper, road noise can be a distraction. But not bad. John and Missy were helpful with directions and suggestions on things to do.
Whidbey Island is a beautiful spot where you can be as active or as laid back as you like. We spent two nights on the farm with our dog and really enjoyed it. Pulled up to the charming, tiny cabin to a welcome note and a couple of beers from Missy & John, who we met the following day and loved.
I'm a little late to post the review, but I have fond memories of how perfect the details were all around the grounds. It's clear someone is an artist and absolutely a nature lover. As a tough critic on quality of bedding and towels, I remember being VERY happy with what was provided. The bed is extremely comfortable and the water pressure in the shower is excellent.
Most enjoyed the location of this place--it was easy access to Whidbey's dog beach (Double Bluff Road), Ebey's Landing (incredible hike!), and the sweet town of Langley (a must!).
I'd recommend this spot to anyone who is hoping to view a lot of the island, and doesn't wish to be sitting around inside for long stretches of time--the cabin itself is very, very small and you'll want to stretch your legs.
Thank you Missy & John! We had a great time.
Missy was very welcoming and sweet! My boyfriend and I got to the property late on a Friday night when all restaurants & grocery stores had already closed, so we were starving and Missy kindly offered to bake us a pizza. The cottage itself was cozy, but there was one night when something kept rattling against the window by our bed and disturbed the majority of our sleep. Our dog had a wonderful time roaming around their farm, despite the chilly & rainy weather. Overall, our stay was nice and convenient, central to all of the other Whidbey Island towns that we intended to visit. However, take care in driving to the property at night because there are no streetlights and it was difficult to spot their driveway on the 55 MPH road, let alone in the drizzly weather. I would recommend this getaway during the late spring or summertime, to make the most of the farm's walking trails (the rain this time of year made them pretty muddy and difficult to navigate).
Response from John & Missy:
Thank you for the review. I think the rattling sound may be a old lantern we hung outside for decoration. We will remove it to see if that helps! So sorry the wind and rain were such a pain this weekend.
We spent two nights at this cottage. It is a studio-type set-up (bathroom in own room). The cottage and bed was very comfortable and clean. The cottage was right of Hwy 20 so was easy to find, but was very quiet at night. Good central location to check out the island. No stove, but there is a microwave and coffee maker. The cottage is set up with all the fixins such as shampoo, soap, towels and so on. On our stay Missy and John even gave us a basket of fruit. Overall it was a great experience, and I would most definitely stay here again.
The cottage was adorable. Really cute decor and stocked with everything you need. The bed was SO comfortable. (very important to me) Very private and totally cozy.
This is a really great location for a trip to Whidbey, In between Langley and Coupeville. I would highly recommend it and hope to be back again.
John and Missy were fantastic! I really enjoy the few moments we had to sit and talk and play with the dogs. It was a true pleasure to have them as guests. They really took advantage of being so close to Waipio Valley and also enjoyed the quiet and comfort of the 'Ohana as well. I would love to be able to visit their vacation rental, Wilde Berry Inn and see them again and, of course meet their dogs : ) Thanks you for your stay guys!
Response from John & Missy:
Thanks Kendyll! You two are welcome to stay with us any time. Say hello to Eli and Timber for us! Blessings from our island to yours! Happy New Year! M&J
Delightful couple! They are respectful, helpful, knowledgeable, interesting. Highly recommended!
