The host made me feel welcome from the first moment we met. Feras is an amazing person who made sure that everything was as it should be all the time. I loved spending time at the hostel, the people who's living there were so wonderful and good to make contact! I'm very glad I booked this hostel, I will probably stay here next time I go to New York. The neighborhood is very New York. Loved it! Subway station is only 2 blocks away. Perfect!
Cheap and serviceable. Need a warm place to sleep and shower look no further. Not the coolest neighborhood but it is safe and near subway. Expect to eat takeout as kitchen is a bit sketchy, fortunately plenty of Spanish delis and Chinese nearby. Feras is a great host and works hard to make sure everyone is taken care of.
This location is no longer available on Airbnb from what I understand, and I can see why. 4 bunk beds per teeny tiny room, 2 insanely small bathrooms for at least 20 people, overall dirty and gross. Found out we were paying quite a bit more than other people staying there who had come from overseas. This is an unlicensed hostel, if it's anything at all. Definitely does not belong on Airbnb. I'd avoid - it's not worth it.
Not Clean and Very small rooms. Cheap, but still not Worth it. Wouldn't recomend it.
It was a very different place, It was practically falling apart, there were gross smells, no real security, black mold in the shower, and a crapy attitude from the host. There is no regulation of quality of property or state of cleanliness. The Hosts never provided a decent clean environment. They also had new guests come into the room I was staying in at any time duirng the night, no respect for our sleeping time. It actually became difficult to sleep there, the sensation of having people you have never seen come in an out of the room at 3 or 4 in the morning was constant.
Im convinced they host this place as pure bussiness, there is not a single thought about having a good enviorment for people who come to spend a couple of days. Its more like a havings hot beds for imigrants desperetaly looking for a place to stay than a place for tourist or students.
Very bad experience!
Feras was an amazing host and was super helpful! I am so glad that I lived at this place because you meet so many amazing people. The only downside is that its very dirty, and Feras works really hard but I wish he employed someone else to help him with everything! On the other hand its really cheap and when you're in New York City you're never really in the hostel that much anyway since there is so much to do in NY, so its a great place to just sleep and meet people! Thanks for everything!!
Feras is a very kind host. He works very hard. To be honest, the kitchen was very dirty, with roaches all the time. And the downstairs bathroom was very musty and had mould all over the place. Not ideal. The bedroom though was much cleaner. Just a little small. I saw inside another bedroom which had less beds, so more space that was the same price.
Experience was good. Someone was there to greet me when I got there and I felt very welcomed. This is a great place if you want to meet people from all around the world. It was also very helpful that is was very affordable. For my first time staying in a hostel; it was a great one.
The host and all the guests were friendly and considerate. They even helped me carry my suitcase up the narrow staircase which was very kind because I had to do this everyday and it was a substantial workout. There's a tv and video games in the basement next to the kitchen which the guys really loved. About a 10-15 minute walk to the subways, a little far by NYC standards, especially with heavier suitcases, but the M train is well connected to Manhattan and other parts of Brooklyn like Williamsburg. Bushwick, while sketchy at night and not central or interesting for sightseeing, does offer a variety of cheap food, fresh juice (Mr. Kiwis next to the M train), coffee shops and delis. It's also a very cheap listing which is great for NYC.
This is essentially a independently run international hostel and as such it doesn't come up to the standards of what you'd expect at a hostel connected to a major network. I think hostels should be inexpensive but still healthy places to sleep.
It's very dirty- there are bugs, lots of mold, dirty floor, kitchen and bathrooms with no regular housekeepers. I didn't want to eat there and only showered there once because it was such a gross experience. The rooms are very small- we didn't have room to walk, change or open suitcases at times. Also the air conditioner did not work well and was placed right in front of one of the beds so one of the gals didn't want it on, blasting her in the face, making the rest of us suffer in the heat. It isn't safe at night to walk around alone as a woman. The beds are uncomfortable. Also difficult to contact the host except by phone- didn't respond to airbnb messages or email. My stay was tricky the first couple days because I was not given a key and the host was not there to let me in- I had to ring the doorbell and hope someone was there to let me in- as did the other guests. The key system changed to a pin code system which is great for the short term but may present a security issue over time unless the code is changed weekly. The no curfew rule is great if you love to party, not so great on the nights you want to get sleep. I got sick during my short stay here. The pillows are ridiculous- buy your own for $4 down the street.
If they got rid of one of the bunk beds, really scrubbed it down and had an exterminator come regularly, had someone there to clean and check in daily, it could be a very effectively profitable enterprise.
As of now it, even though it's cheap like most hostels are, it is an unhealthy place to sleep and it comes up short of airbnb standards and others should be aware of the downfalls before booking.
