Elia's place was absolutely perfect for us. The cabin is like a little piece of quirky heaven in the middle of nowhere. The cabin has such a personality, every time you look around you find something new to admire. The book case is to die for, there is a great collection of records and cds that played all weekend, and lots of board games.
Our favourite part of the entire place was the screened in porch, we spent most of our time out there just in awe of how quiet it is. The outhouse was the cleanest we've ever encountered and the fully equipped kitchen was a real luxury.
We day-tripped to Algonquin (1.5 hrs away) and would also recommend doing the Eagles Nest hike in Bancroft! (30 mins away).
The directions that Elia provided were especially helpful and we would seriously suggest printing them off and having them on hand as Google maps/our gps didn't seem to really know where the place was.
Our only advice would be to take some extra toilet paper just in case you run out and to watch for deer on the road in!
In short, the cabin was everything we wanted and more,
Elia’s cabin the woods was just what I imagined – a cozy retreat from the busy city life. The one and only thing I could say that was less than ideal initially was the message response time via airbnb but once we transferred over to personal email the response time was a lot quicker. Elia’s information was very detailed and came in handy. The drive was over 4 hours from Toronto due to bad weather but was a nice drive, a beautiful location and a funky interior that made us feel very welcome. Elia’s driving directions came in handy as the address doesn’t seem to appear on GPS or google maps. The handwritten welcome note was a nice touch as well. The weekend was extremely cold but between the electric heaters and the wood stove we managed to keep the place warm. There was vinyl player which was a bonus as Bob Marley’s Greatest Hits and Paul Simon’s Graceland were on repeat the whole weekend. Elia’s bookshelves were filled to the brim with interesting literature of which a few were opened and enjoyed and will be sought out for addition to my own collection. The sink was not draining so a slop bucket was used and snow was melted and heated for the washing of dishes. We brought our own toilet paper for use in the outhouse but appears as though there was a small supply of TP behind the stove. Garbage bags were provided and basic condiments and spices. We enjoyed using the various drinking glasses and mugs as they seem to have been collected over quite some time - very unique! There was plenty of wood, though I think we used the last of the kindling upon restocking the indoor supply. The place has a lot of character which felt very welcoming and accepting. I would definitely stay here again and the price is right as it does take a little bit of work to the keep the comfort level
Great guest! Elia was easy to correspond with and left the apartment in excellent condition. Would happily host her again.
Great Guest to have a pleasure stay at my place. Welcome back anytime & recommended to any host. All the Best :)
Elia stayed with us one night. Due to timing issues, we never actually met her. She didn't clearly communicate the changes in her arrival time or check out time but left the place clean.
Elia was very easy to communicate with and was certainly friendly. She left my place in pristine condition and is a great guest to host! Highly recommended.
