My path isn't for everybody, in fact there are many who would turn their nose up at the things that bring me great pleasure. Waking up early to spend time with the birds, getting my hands dirty in the garden or loading my wood cook stove to prepare my dinner. But I am not writing this for those people, I am writing this for you. You who share my love of the natural world and desire to get off the grid, to reclaim the independence we have so quickly lost in the mechanized 21st century.
My daily tasks are both very similar and very different from yours. I wake up, have a shower, brew a coffee, read the paper online and check my posts on facebook. The difference is, I create the power and the hot water I am using. My home is energized by 4 x 175 watt solar panels and a water wheel. My coffee is brewed by my wood cook stove which also heats all of my hot water. These things I use, I create, which deepens the value of what I am doing. I am empowered with the knowledge that I am responsible for the quality of life I am living. This is a path of simple necessities where observing the creatures I share space with and stewardship of this land is my daily motivation.
I want to share this with you. I want to invite you to stay at Jessie's Path so you too can feel the gratification of living independently. Step off the beaten track onto the road less travelled. Stroll through my old growth forests and witness the 3 mating pairs of herons nesting in my trees. Sit on the deck and observe the resident osprey hunt her morning breakfast. Join me in my garden to harvest your dinner of fresh organic vegetables or collect oysters down on the beach. I want you here. I want you to see that you too, have what it takes to make your own path.
