Hey, I’m Greg!

Fort Collins, Colorado, United States · Member since October 2012

I am a professional writer, journalist, filmmaker and bestselling author (really! (URL HIDDEN) I travel frequently, but hate staying in hotels. I am fastidiously clean, prefer a quiet night watching Law & Order reruns to bar-hopping, usually early to bed and early to rise and, while I'm a very social person, prefer keeping my mind on task to socializing. Many of my out-of-town travels are packed with appointments, assignments and other off-site work activities, so I really look for places to return to for the evening where I can unwind and turn my brain off. Having spent a great deal of time in difficult foreign countries (Libya, Nigeria and Sierra Leone, to name just a few), I'm not looking for luxury, just a little peace and quiet.

Most of my trips fall into two categories: (1) wall-to-wall agendas, making my down time valuable as a quiet opportunity to relax or (2) writing solitude where I actively tune out the world to focus on delivering an assignment on deadline. My needs are simple: a nice view, some sunlight and lots of privacy. For these reasons, I prefer to rent entire apartments or houses and would rarely be interested in sharing a space.

On a more personal note, I'm married with a teenage son and a nonsmoker. And I'm actually less of a hermit than I just made myself sound, but when I'm traveling, I tend to put a premium on privacy. Socializing is great in the right context, but chances are I'm looking to AirBNB less for a vacation where I'd want to meet people and see the sights than for a nice refuge that can serve as a nesting place while on assignment.
