I'm from London. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need any more information on my properties.
Although I never met Paula, she was very responsive. I arrived and was let it by the building manager, who showed me around. My room was completely set up with towels, blankets, a hair drier, TV, dvd's, free wifi, etc. The apartment is directly above a few lovely restaurants and in a really great posh neighborhood. Because of the restaurants, it is quite noisy late at night, even on weeknights. I live in a city, so that noise doesn't bother me at all, but somebody who gets woken up easily should bring earplugs. My only recommendation would be to change the check out time from 10am to 11am or noon. Thank you!!!
My son and I had a wonderful time staying in Paula's flat. It is tastefully designed, very clean and cozy. The location is perfect near many popular attractions. Matthew (the property manager) was very helpful, and Paula was diligent in answering all my emails and inquiries. Thank you Paula for allowing me to use your beautiful home as my own:-)
We were very pleased with the service and Matthew's kindness and flexibility! This could not have been any better and this made our trip to London smooth and easy. When we arrived there was some snacks and wine for us - really nice!
The apartment was as described in the text and the pictures but we are though not big fans of basement apartment - we missed the light and fresh air.
We enjoyed our stay in London very much and the apartment is placed just perfect for tourists in London :-)
The furniture in the room is older than it looks in the pictures and the shared parts could have been cleaner and, also, the room is not very noise isolated (from the other rooms and from the street).
The location was the best thing for me, it's really close to Oxford Street from where you can walk to other interesting parts of the city, but also Bond Street tube station is 5 minutes by walk.
I had a problem with the communication, Paula only answered my mail when I asked her about the availability of the room, and once I booked it I didn't receive any answers. I told her my flight arrived in the morning but that I didn't know the exact hour I'd be in the room, and when I got there Matthew had been waiting for me a 10 a.m. (I didn't say to Paula that I'd arrive at that time) and since I wasn't there he left. I finally met him but it felt like it was my fault, but I had been telling Paula my situation and she told Matthew something else.
I found it a little bit annoying to talk to someone in airbnb about the room and then, once you get there, you treat with someone else with whom you haven't spoken yet. It would be easier if you could talk directly with Matthew.
Really nice stay and lovely people even though I didn't see them that much because I wasn't there during the day. The neighborhood is really lovely with shops right around the corner and tubes nearby. The room has everything needed and the bathroom and kitchen are shared but have everything needed too. Really enjoyed it!
My stay in London was very great. I loved taht littel cosy room. Matthew was very kind. Everything went well. Thanks for hosting me.
Paula n Matthew were fabulous n gracious thru out despite our delays in picking up our left luggage after checking out.
Tons Better than booking a hotel!
Thks heaps Paula!
Hotels are there waiting for you. But for the benefits of an Airbnb booking, you have to deal with individual homeowners. Reliability becomes an issue and a holiday may be ruined if you are let down by one.
Thus I chose Paula’s apartment because she had many consistently positive comments spanning a significant period. You don’t get that kind of track record by providing slipshod accommodation to travellers with differing expectations.
I was not disappointed. Paula was quick in her email responses. We were met by Matthew soon after we arrived. He is the most warm and jovial sort of person and we had a few good laughs. The apartment is exactly as it looks in the pictures and is maintained well. There were more than enough heaters (fixed and portable) available but we did not use most of them as it was April. Hot water was good and reliable. A good-sized LCD TV with probably the best program selection of our trip was on hand. Wifi was powerful and the place was well-lit. The washer and dryer both worked well (we did not try out the dishwasher). Paula even provided bedroom slippers like the hotels! But Paula outdid the hotels by providing a MacBook Pro laptop. The now famous bottle of wine (though we didn’t drink it) and peanuts in bowls when we arrived were a nice touch.
In addition to reliability, I liked the pictures and how it looked when I arrived. It certainly had that “airy” feel, contributed no doubt by the large windows and white walls. Coming back to the apartment after a gruelling day out was such a relief!
Please note you need to climb 3 floors by stairs (the lift was not working). I doubt this is an issue for most. I suspect that many central London accommodation do not have lifts as the buildings are of an earlier era. That is why many London streets are so charming. In fact, while Paula’s apartment does not feel old, I see plaques on some of the nearby buildings attesting to famous people having lived there in the 19th (or earlier) century!
It’s a 10 minutes normal walk to Oxford Street (at the Selfridges end and there is a huge Primark Store there). Baker Street Tube Station (at which so many lines conveniently converge) is about 6 minutes walk away (depending on traffic lights). There are Tesco Supermarkets nearby and I enjoyed running in the morning in the picturesque Regent’s Park which is nearby.
I'm so pleased that I decided to book this flat again on my recent London trip--it is becoming one of my secret weapons in business travel. Paula and Matthew are helpful and guest-focused, and have really thought through the amenities, from the welcome bottle of wine to hair dryer, electrical adapter, ironing supplies, wifi and more. The location of this flat is ideal, with every kind of shop and resource within steps, and public transportation a short walk away. My only advice is to book early if you have dates in mind. Very much looking forward to returning again.
