Ron & Ben are wonderful hosts. My friend and I are medical students, and were working in the area for one month, so, we actually got to know the owners of the condo very well. They have a beautiful home, which is kept very clean - something, that we very much appreciated. The building is located right on the beach- and guests of the building have full access to it, along with the pool & gym. The general area is also great- as there are is shopping/dining nearby.
We had a great experience staying with Ron & Ben. They are two of the kindest people we have ever met. There were a few times, where we ended up a little far from home, and they always offered to come pick us up. Never having been to the area, they provided us with great advice about different things to see and do in Miami. You couldn't ask for more wonderful people to stay with. In fact, by the end of the trip, we exchanged emails, so that we could keep in touch. It was a great first experience- as we had both never used the site before.
Kevin rents a room in Ron & Ben's home, and he uses airbnb during the periods he is away. The room is clean & well kept. The apartment is gorgeous.
We stayed 3 nights at Kevin's room and shared the apartment with his two room-mates. At first we were a little intimidated by the house with valet and concierge, but Ben and Ron showed us everything and it was our best travel-days ever!
Here is my list of the most positive things:
The room-mates are the nicest guys you can imagine - very helpful and patient,
The view from 41. floor over the ocean and the city is unbelievable,
very nice, modern and clean apartment, close to the beach, friendly valet parking for free!!!, small gym, outside pool, own large bathroom, closet for luggage, WiFi, balcony, great value for money, and again the view!
We loved it and would do it again!
The apartment is actually Ron & Ben's, a very sweat gay couple living with their lovely two pet rabbits.
They rent a room to Kevin (whom I never met but who was very nice and polite when we wrote to each other by email), and Kevin rents it away when he's not there.
Ron & Ben are very nice, discrete, polite, respectful and helpful, not to mention very welcoming.
They work a lot, so I rarely saw them, but we managed to go get a coffee together at Starbuck on my last day and we had a good time, they are very likable.
Ben is very nice, even though he had to work, he offered me many times to give me a lift ride in his car to the places I needed to go.
The apartment is located on the 41st floor of a luxurious building in Sunny Isle (corner of Collins avenue and 166th street - 40 minutes north of south beach by bus.)
The room is big and comfortable, has its private bathroom and the 2 huge windows by the bed are overlooking the sea and the bay (it is amazing to wake up in the morning with the sun shining up over the sea : it is the first thing you see when you open your eyes).
In the living room there is a balcony where I loved to seat to eat fresh fruits while looking down at the sea and the bay.
The building is very posh and luxurious, and you need a pass to come in and out, as well as to go to the great (heated up) outside swimming pool and jacuzzi.
There is not much to do (activity and site-seeing wise) in the neighborhood, but it was perfect for me as all I wanted was peace and quiet to recharge my batteries.
However, it is full of supermarkets, café, restaurants, shops, etc (minutes walk from the apartment).
Also, there is the huge "Avventura Mall" (15 minutes north with the S bus) where you will find all the designer shops as well as many restaurants.
For those who want to go down to South Beach it takes about 40 minutes with the S or 120 buses (the S runs 24 hours). It is very easy.
All together, I highly recommend you to stay there.
As for me, I know now that I have an address to go to next time I will be in Miami : Ron and Ben's place.
Thank you guys.
This condo is a 5 star property on the beach halfway between Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. Suite with a view of the beach and Miami, it has a large bedroom and bath. Ron and Ben were great hosts. They provided free valet parking and gave me access to the kitchen, laundry room, family room and the balcony. Spent two hours the first night on the balcony looking at the lights of Miami. Wish I was there now and plan to return.
I was here from an entire month since I was rotating at a nearby hospital, so I believe I got a good feel for both the place and location.
Pros: You have your own space and the apartment is fairly large, with a nice kitchen (and new amenities) and brand new couch. There is an attached basement with new washer and dryer (my clothes got very clean). I was disappointed there wasn't an iron but then in my last week I found that the iron was in a box in the bathroom and the ironing board was behind the door leading to the basement. The bed is also very comfortable, with plenty of spare sheets and pillows. There is lots of closet and storage space. The water pressure in the kitchen and tub was strong, but for some reason it was weak in the bathroom sink. The internet originally wasn't working, but it was fixed right away and was decent. There is a TV but I never used it. The upstairs neighbors, despite being young and in college, were very friendly and quiet. I wish I had more time to get to know them.
Cons: The parking can be an issue. I worked a lot of nights at the hospital and sometimes would have to park up to 0.5 miles away. However, once I got a feel for the area I found some places to park nearby and my walk was usually less than 3 minutes. The area is being revitalized. Basically it means there are a lot of brand new apartments mixed in with old and dirty ones. but the streets are lit and tree-lined and the immediate area seemed pretty safe. However, a few blocks north of Girard Ave. is more dangerous and I was advised not to venture out there after dark. On the other hand, a few blocks south on Fairmount Ave. there were lots of nice coffee shops and restaurants, and Center City (also a great place) is very close. A few less important notes but things I found slightly inconvenient are that there were only 2 forks and no cutting knives (a few butter and steak knives only), but otherwise the kitchen was fully applianced. Also, the place was dirty when I arrived. Although I had to clean it, I was given a $25 gift card to the restaurant across the street for my efforts. A maid did eventually come during my 3rd week, after a friendly reminder to the host.
There were a few hiccups during my stay, but all in all the host was responsive to my requests and was friendly. I would definitely recommend staying here.
The apartment was in a great location and the gentleman that works with Kevin, and who gave me the keys, was extremely helpful. Would definitely stay again.
Great Host in excellent space. Peaceful, easy, close to everything and a pleasure. My wife and feel lucky to have had such a wonderful experience and we look forward to seeing Kevin again soon. If you are looking for a place in Philadelphia, Kevin is guy to contact. THANKS FOR A GREAT HOME KEVIN.
My stay with Kevin was just great! The place was huge and very affordable. Kevin was in Miami opening up a new restaurant so for most of my stay I had full run of the place. Everything I needed was close by. The subway was only 4 blocks away and 3 stops to downtown. Kevin even lent me his bike and I road it to whole foods to pick up groceries. And the best thing was a BBQ on the rooftop deck overlooking the city. Awesome!
We liked our stay so much we extended it more days! Check out our comments below! We definitely recommend this stay!
Kevin was incredibly gracious and extremely accessible even though he was out. He had someone meet us right on time with the keys and the apartment was open, clean, fresh, bright, and very peaceful! We had fresh towels and a large room with a great bed all set up and ready for us. Kevin was very responsive by text or phone to answer questions and welcome us. It was the perfect space to relax, enjoy Francisville and even have a kind of sanctuary to work in. Kevin knows quite a few people in the city, and it was really cool to have a host with a bar down the street where we could meet people from the area. We definitely recommend this stay!
Nice guest. A pleasure to have in our home!
Waseem was a great guest. We enjoyed chatting with him and learning about his life in Philadelphia. He was very respectful and thoughtful. We would love to host him again!
