I am a phD candidate at UC Berkeley, working on improving the sustainability of concrete.
When I arrived to the US for my graduate studies, I really enjoyed how friendly people here are. So I hope that through Airbnb I will meet many other welcoming persons!
I did a lot of backpacking: in Eastern Europe, Russia, Iceland, and a little in the US. What I really liked is that on tough times people's kindness is making your life so much easier: taking a hitchhiker, letting camp in a comfy piece of lawn, or just talking about what would be the next nice thing to see. I hope to find the same spirit with Airbnb, people you can talk you and share with. Also I like the idea that I know that my money is going to be well-spent, by an individual I would know (contrary to a hotel chain).
I have been sharing houses for 7 years now, and I managed to maintain good relationships with my housemates and landlords by staying respectful of the cleanness and the quietness of the places I lived in. And I plan on doing the same while a guest with Airbnb. I don't have my own place (yet), so I am not planning on hosting for Airbnb but it is for sure something I would like to do in the future.
