My name is Amy Schalet. I am a professor of Sociology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I'm American born, but grew up in the Netherlands, before returning to the US as an adult. Some of my passions in life are dancing -- I especially like to do and see modern dance -- music, nature, travel. I also like cooking, spending time with good friends, and reading.
I am an independent traveler -- I live alone, so have a lot of experience doing things on my own. But I also really enjoy getting to know other people, making conversation, and discovering new things. I am tidy and considerate of others -- don't talk loud after hours, etc. I love food, and will eagerly take recommendations for good restaurants, and coffee in the neighborhood.
I am about to visit Europe for the first time in 4 years (I am on sabbatical). I am very excited about this, since, much as I love living where I do, I have missed many aspects of the "European life". I will be in the Netherlands, Scandinavia, Great Britain, and Ireland.
This is my first time Using air B & B, but I have frequently stayed in other B & B's that are also in people's homes.
