As others have said, our hosts were very friendly, and we seemed to have the place to ourselves most of the time. That said, my main problem was a lack of a railing at the top of the stairs. I actually lost some sleep over that, worrying that I would get up in the night, forget I was not at home, and just walk over the edge. Also, I hit my head on the ceiling a few times (I am 5' 10"). I could only stand up straight in the very center of the room. No offense to renters (we were for many years), but we did not realize ahead of time this property is hosted by a renter and not by the owner of the property.
We did enjoy the proximity to downtown Portsmouth, and knew we were saving $100 a night over other hotels and b&b's in the area. But I think next time we would stay farther out and drive in each day. I can't quite recommend it, except to young people who really need to save money and don't have a car.
If you are looking for a no frills place to stay and don't mind sharing with the hosts (we didn't at all, since the sisters are very respectful, quiet and not there very often) this is the ideal spot for Portsmouth! Nicole who is the main contact is quite friendly and a responsible host who is always available for questions. The best part is that it's in a safe neighborhood in walking distance of the downtown area. I definitely recommend Nicole and I'm sure anywhere she hosts for airbnb will be great!
I had very simple needs for this weekend so this arrangement totally worked for me, but I was thinking at times that it might not have been right for everyone. I never did meet Nicole, unfortunately, but ran into her sister and boyfriend, both who were very friendly and checked to see if I needed anything. Nicole did check in to make sure I was all set, which was very considerate. Mostly, though, I let myself in Friday, went back out and came in late, slept in late, left for the day and returned late, needing only a place to lay my head and take a shower two nights. The kitchen and common area, I didn't use, but I believed I could - and they were really nice spaces. I never did check to see if they had wi-fi or learn how it might work because I was never there. One interesting aspect of the loft was that it was open - meaning, you go up the carpeted stairs, and there are two twin beds up there, and the stairwell open to face the kitchen below. So no real privacy or even space to do much more than go up stairs, walk around the bed and dive in. Which, again, is just what I required. The bed was great - I slept like a stone but that might also be because I was out having such fun in Portsmouth. I had a flashlight on my key chain and since finding light switches to navigate to the bathroom in the dark (downstairs, across the common area) was not always easy it came in handy. Whereas some AirBnB stays are like BnB's, this one was very much like (website hidden) your young niece's first apartment less than a mile walk from an awesome neighborhood, while she's out working crazy hours. And no complaints whatsoever.
Nicole is a very friendly and communicative host who was a pleasure to deal with. Her place was a bit run-down but clean and orderly, and it was just a short drive (or a long walk) from downtown Portsmouth. She lives on a quiet side street along the water's edge on the way into town, which was easy to access from the highway. No wifi or breakfast offered, but Nicole did leave some granola bars for when we (website hidden) $109 a night, it struck me as a bit overpriced, but it's still a good low-budget alternative to the more pricey hotels downtown. Thanks again Nicole!
We has a wonderful stay at Portsmouth. Nicole was a great host and has a nice place with two single beds and a great view of North Pond. Portsmouth is such a friendly place that we got chatting with some folk at the "Book & Bar" (a great bookshop cum bar; does exactly what it says on the tin!), one of whom turned out to be N's boyfriend... so we knew all the cool kids before she even got off work!
Our short stay with Nicole was nice & comfortable. Nicole & her sister are real friendly and nice to chat with. We had everything we needed for a couple of nights, comfy beds, wifi, access to the kitchen, clean bathroom and easy access into town. Just be aware that there is no door to this attic room and the stairs are quite steep.
Nicole is very nice and helpful with arrival and recommendations! The loft is great for friends traveling together with the two twin beds, but guests should be aware that there is no door between it and the rest of the apartment. Nicole and her sister weren't around much while we were there, so that was fine, but her sister did come back from work late and this could be troublesome for light sleepers. The apartment is also on the older side and could use new carpeting, but the location is great to walk to downtown!
The house is cozy and clean. It's within walking distance to downtown Portsmouth. Nicole and her sister are fantastic, and it was great getting to talk with them!
This is the perfect location for a stay in Portsmouth. It is an easy walk to all of the shopping/dining/culture of downtown Portsmouth. Nicole had excellent recommendations for restaurants, as well as for the various state parks and beaches in the area. The loft is cozy and comfortable, and having access to the kitchen was a big plus for me.
While we didn't have a chance to meet Nicole in person, we would highly recommend her to other hosts. She was very easy to reach, responsive and left our apartment as clean as we provided jt.
It was a great pleasure hosting Nicole at our Steamboat Springs resort condo. She was a tidy guest and we would love to have her back again. Thanks Nicole!
Nicole and her sister ..stayed only one night and i was busy as were they so we didnt really get to chat ..james talked to her the next morning and said she was really friendly and easy to talk to .the place was left clean and welcome back anytime ..hope to see next time thanks
Nicole's a ball of energy just rollin' right at ya... Look out!!! Here she comes! I have known Nicole for over three years and since we've met we've traveled a lot together. Whether it's in the car to a local ski mountain or hiking a volcano in Guatemala, she's interested in ways she can make you feel comfortable and happy. This personality is always extended to her guests. I have been hosted at Nicole's house several times and it's always a comfortable stay. I cant't wait for my next visit. She's also a writer and I know she'll be looking at how I wrote this review. (How did I do, Nicole?).
Nicole is the best hostess in all of Portsmouth. Her waterfront apartment is super close to downtown. She knows everyone and will be more than accommodating during your stay. She is a constant traveler herself so knows what traveler's need. You won't be disappointed with the accommodation or hospitality if you book into Dearborn Ave!
