Hello and welcome to Rotterdam!

I am a foreigner in the Netherlands. I moved to Rotterdam about 11 years ago for work. I like the straight-forward practicality of the Dutch, their tolerance for foreigners, and the fact that they speak English and their ´secret´ language.

I have lived in 9 countries on 5 continents as an IT consultant, and traveled through 69 countries as a tourist, so I respect other cultures. Since I live alone in a large 2 bedroom apartment, I sometimes enjoy having someone stay with me, and I feel better having someone here while I´m traveling. I hosted 30 times in Budapest. In Rotterdam, I have hosted airbnb guests from Spain, Ireland, US, Egypt, Belgium, Israel, Lithuania, Australia, Italy, France, India, Denmark, Singapore, Canada, Korea, Ukraine, Ecuador, China, Romania, UK, Switzerland, Mexico, Greece, Brazil, Finland and even the Netherlands. I have been an airbnb guest in Cardiff, Istanbul, Marrakesh, Rabat, Toronto, Rockville, DC, Santiago de Chile, Valparaiso, Guayaquil, Luxembourg and also the Netherlands. I learn to be a better airbnb host from my hosts and my guests.

I know a traveler wants to pack as little as possible (especially liquids), so I provide all the common toiletries, even slippers, hair dryer, dutch umbrella. A traveler needs to move and communicate, so I lend a map, an OV chipcard, a cell phone with Dutch phone sim card and a laptop. A traveler may want to print a boarding pass or ticket, so I lend a printer (if there is ink and paper). A traveler may want to have some breakfast before leaving and something to drink upon coming back so I provide breakfast ingredients and all-day tea/coffee. A traveler may need to cook, wash and iron clothes so I lend my kitchen, washer, dryer, iron. A traveler may want to relax, so I lend my books, small games, TV, and DVDs. I cannot list everything here, but you get the picture. Please note that the list of amenities included depends on the number of beds rented and how long.

I chose the Rotterdam center as my base because of its small but international airport, at least 2 train stations, the fast Intercity IC Direct train to Schipol, the metro to the Hague, the efficient trams, metro and buses, and the unique water bus and water taxis. I love that Rotterdam centrum is small enough that I can walk everywhere, even as far as Kralingen Lake in the east, Kop van Zuid / Katendrecht in the south, Delfshaven in the west, and Blijdorp Zoo in the north. Its modern buildings, pockets of historical areas and quirky art make me smile.

I love my neighborhood, which I think is in the best neighborhood in Rotterdam. It is in the historic Scheepvaartkwartier (Shipping Quarter) which was fortunately spared from the WWII bombing, so more than 20% of the Rotterdam monuments are in this neighborhood. It is also one of the richest neighborhoods in the Netherlands. I love walking in The Park and walking along the Maas River while watching the many ships, maybe even a cruise ship, go by. On my listing, scroll to the bottom to see where I live. Read the full listing Description and Guidebook, too. You can limit your airbnb search to: ˙Nieuwe Werk, Rotterdam, The Netherlands˙ if you like this neighborhood.
For parking in my neighborhood, search online for : car-parking netherlands rotterdam
For all day parking, search online for : park & ride slinge rotterdam cityguide
I love my apartment. It is on a calm street but very close to all public transportation. What makes my home unique ? It is above the 20th floor, with a wonderful ever changing view of the the Maas River, a view I can enjoy from the living room, the 2 bedrooms, and the balcony. Across the river, I can see part of the Port, the SS Rotterdam cruise ship, the Ahoy arena, the Hotel New York, De Rotterdam which is the largest building in the Netherlands, the Feyenoord football stadium, the impressive Erasmus bridge, the van Brienennoord bridge, the Hef bridge, and other buildings. On this side, I can see the Spido boat quay and the old ferry harbor. Not least of all, I can use the exclusive 5th floor lobby, gym, pool and saunas as an extension of my apartment and a place to escape the typical Dutch weather. So can you, as my guests.

Some Rotterdamfestivals (may change) and others:
January: International Film Festival

Some of the outdoor events can be seen from my living room and balcony.
If I know of any events other than the popular festivals going on during your stay, I will let you know so you can have some local experiences. I will also tell you about my favorite places outside my neighborhood.

I hope you enjoy my city and my home on the Maas. It is my home so it does not look like an empty hotel room, it has all my personal things in it. So please treat my home with love and respect.
For your security I had my official ID verified by airbnb. It would make sense for you to also have your official ID verified by airbnb, right ? It´s easy and it´s free. Then everybody can see a green check mark on your profile.
I rent only to VERIFIED members with a face photo, so if you are serious, please take a minute to do this.

If you bring me a free tourist map of your city and explain it to me, I will greatly appreciate it. If you need anything else, just ask and I will do what I can.

Tot ziens,
