I am originally from Uruguay, been living in NY for 13 years. I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in Art History.
Maru was very communicative and made coordinating our key hand-off easy. The apartment was perfect for my husband, young son, and myself. Having a washer and dryer was priceless! Location was great, lots happening in Bushwick these days. There was a great Russian cafe down the street for breakfast and we enjoyed excellent pizza at nearby Roberta's. Close to subways and buses. Building was quiet at night. Would definitely stay here again and would also recommend it to others. Thanks so much, Maru!

Great little place. Clean and bright. Maru was quick in getting back to us, and clear in her instructions. She was super friendly from the start, and communication with her was always easy. She made our weekend in Bushwick a real treat. Thanks Maru! We'd stay there again anytime.
experience started positive, and then took a turn for the negative. I picked this property due to the location, and the overwhelmingly positive feedback on the host’s page. I experienced certain problems that I thought it fair to recount them here.
First, the positive: the apartment is extremely well located, as per the description, and it is very easy to access Manhattan on the L-train. The area is nice, and safe, and the host provides a list of restaurants, bars, and cafes nearby. The apartment has a large flatscreen TV with Netflix, and high speed wireless internet.
The negative: the night of my arrival, I arrived to the apartment to shower after a long day in the city. I found the bathroom in an utterly dismal state: there was a dirty, wet towel hanging; there was hair inside the tub, and on the floor; the floor was grimy; there was toothpaste spit in the sink. It was evident that the bathroom had been very recently used and not cleaned. There was a general layer of dust throughout the apartment, especially in the bedroom and living room, which I was willing to look past, but the dirty bathroom was unhygienic, unsanitary, and flat-out unacceptable. It was very late, and I had a busy schedule, so I decided to clean the bathroom myself and ask for a refund of the cleaning fee after.
The host refused to refund the cleaning fee, saying she had cleaned the apartment, despite the situation described above. I had spent 20 mins scrubbing the bathroom upon my arrival, and felt that I was entitled to a refund of the cleaning fee. It wasn’t about the money, so much as it was about the unpleasant experience of cleaning someone else’s mess. I contacted Airbandb customer service, and they immediately reimbursed me for the cleaning fee.
Finally, there are other aspects of the apartment that were not ideal: the heater in the bedroom is broken, and it’s very cold. The host provided an extra duvet in place of the heater, but it was stained, patched in duck tape, and not in a washable cover. One of the towels was heavily stained (but freshly laundered). And (outside the host’s control) the fixtures in the bathroom are run down: the toilet and shower and extremely old and difficult to use. The bed frame is so uncomfortable that my roommate and myself had sore backs during the entire stay of our trip.
Taken together, there are some positive aspects (location; TV) but the overall lack of cleanliness, other problems with the amenities (bedroom, linens, shower and toilet) lead me to not recommend this property."
Great apartment in an awesome location... Ideal for a couple or friends wishing to share a double bed during their stay. Close to subway and some great restaurants and bars in Bushwick- surrounded by street art, deli's and easy access into manhattan.
We stayed 10 days in Marus apartment and it was wonderful! We really felt at home and welcome. She is really nice and always reachable if there are any problems or questions. The area is safe and there are good possibilities to get to Manhattan or other places of Brooklyn. Totally recommended.
Maru was fantastic from start to finish! I highly recommend staying in her apartment!
Before I arrived she sent me a welcome email with details of the area, how to get there, cab numbers, subway information and things to do!
The apartment itself was not only beautiful, warm but very clean. I found Bushwick to be safe and friendly. I must admit that having never been to NYC before, I was a little scared traveling alone. After only a few hours, I felt at home in NYC :)
Bushwick and Williamsburg had lots of cool bars and nice restaurants - if I ever move to NYC, I will move to Bushwick!
Maru was on hand to answer any questions I had throughout my stay.
I highly recommend Maru as a top class AirBnB-er :)
This was my first experience with Airbnb and this Luminous Loft Apt was a very comfortable place to stay and Maru was a very helpful host. Definitely recommendable place close to local life in Bushwick and a short 7-8 min walk to either Myrtle or Morgan subway stations.
