"Do not stop thinking of life as an adventure." -Eleanor Roosevelt

From Virginia. I'm a scientist, and currently a student. I usually travel with my spouse Maureen, who's an English professor and a student working on her PhD in Literature.

We love travelling, making new friends, and having meaningful discussions about many topics: music, literature, science, art, France, authors, painters, movie analysis, ghost stories, mysteries, cooking, history, local species diversity, social justice, human rights........

We're both musicians; we both sing, and I play the harmonica and the drums-- Big Band and Blues. Maureen performed folk music at festivals in the 1990s and we started our own band in 2007. We love all sorts of music, and will try to find events when traveling.

We're quiet and happy guests. We try to be considerate of hosts and other guests, if any. We're clean, so we like the space we're renting to be freshly cleaned, dusted, and vacuumed, free of pests, and smelling fresh--those things are really important to us, and essential. A clean place, freshly prepared for our visit is a fair exchange for paying for the space. We'll always leave the space just as we found it, or better. We're unlikely to want to rent any space that is maintained by guests on an "on your honor" basis. We don't mind dogs or cats; we have two gorgeous, spoiled kitties of our own at home.

In addition to my native English, I speak French and Spanish, and Maureen speaks English and knows Latin and a few French and Spanish words. Her theory: as long as she can know how to get to the bathroom, the cafe, and say "yes" or "no," she's set. Mine: I have to understand every word of a song or film without cheating and looking at the subtitles. If our host watches movies and enjoys company, we might bring the wine!

We're vegetarian, and love Farmer's Markets and fresh, local produce. So, if your area has a Farmer's Market, we'd love to check it out!

We're mostly low-maintenance, but cannot live without some kind of access to strong, fresh-brewed coffee in the morning!
