:) :) :)
And most recently..... airbnb HOST!!! Love this website!
The home itself was warm and clean. The bedroom isn't huge but the bed was comfy and there was enough space to store clothes in the dresser. I used the bedroom for my daughter and I slept in the lounge (the bed there is a converted couch but also very comfy).
The kitchen diner was also clean and well equipped for self catering, which I needed as I was preparing food for my little daughter. More than that, the fridge was already full with goodies, such as eggs, bacon, yogurt and tomatoes complementary for the stay (which I thought it was a really nice touch:)).
The internet connection was also very good and fast which is also something I needed for my stay so I could connect to Europe to communicate with (website hidden).
The neighborhood is quite and safe and parking on the street was always available.
I had an extremely good experience with this booking.
Rae and Ryan are amazing hosts, very warm and friendly and they did everything they could to help with my stay.
They were also extremely flexible and open to feedback. In fact we talked about possible improvements such as clearing up a spare room in order to create an extra small bedroom useful for a child or a play area.
It didn't feel like staying in a b&b but more like staying at friends for a visit and I'm happy to say that we agreed already for my next visit in few weeks time!
We spent a delightful 2 days using Rae and Ryan's accommodation. as first time users of airbnb. Their location was perfect for needs. Easy access by Orange Line from Midway and easy access to downtown Chicago by bus on nearby Halsted Av. A city bike rental station is within 3 blocks. Bridgeport is full of history for those with any interest Mayor Daly, Snt; recommend reading "Boss Mayor RJ Daly" by Mike Royko.
Rae was readily available by email and phone in preparation for our arrival
Rae and Ryan were very helpful and I appreciated their hospitality.
There were a few issues related to renovations and repairs that needed to be done (the window!!) but I would not expect those to pose a problem for future guests... as long as that work is completed!
In terms of location, bridgeport is a quiet residential area, i.e. most residents use cars. It is certainly possible to get around by foot, but if you need to come and go a lot between the bridgeport neighbourhood and downtown or other parts of the city, bear in mind that the commuter rail is a solid 20-30 min walk from the house depending on the route you take (I took the longer route so as to pass by some cafes and shops).
Response from Rae:
Yes, the "7 day project" that we had planned for and booked around accordingly, turned into a 17 day fiasco! Thanks for your flexibility- grateful the renovations are complete now.
Everything was wonderful, the position is perfect to visit the city and the tube is just a few walks away! The flat is very nice and comfortable even if we are 4. The second double bed in the living room is cozy as they told. The owner is very kind for any question and available for quickly plan change as we have done!
Thanks a lot
Everything was perfect, the position is very good to visit the city, the flat is wonderful and just few walks away from the nearest tube station.
The owner ids very kind and available for any questions or quickly change of plan, as we do it!
We are very glad that we had a chance to stay at Rae's place, it was a very positive experience: the apartment are very cozy, light, spacious and atmospheric and it takes only 20 minutes to get to the very center of the city!
Rae is a wonderful host! She's very hospitable and wellcoming, she was attentive to our requests and thanks to her our arrival to Chicago was just fine!
We hope to come back someday :))
This place is incredible! I absolutely, 100% recommend a stay at Rae and Ryan's place. It never felt like a strangers house, but rather like an old friend's. Everything was clean and set up for us when we arrived and Rae took great care with keeping in touch with me before, during, and after our stay to ensure everything was going well. We were a party of four, myself and my friend were bridesmaids and our plus-ones came as our dates. My friend and her husband slept on the bed in the room off the living room, while I slept on the couch and my other friend slept on the air mattress.
The air mattress was super comfortable (I had to try it out!) and it was convenient that the pump was built in! The way the apartment is set up, it wasn't in the way at all. We all mostly hung out in the kitchen and sat on the couch and air mattress when convening in the living room.
The apartment is a little way out of the city, but is very easily accessible by bus, which then takes you to the train station. Since my friend and I are from NYC, this wasn't strange or inconvenient for us at all. To get downtown, it took us about 40 minutes in total - waiting for the bus, transferring to the train, and walking all included. We also took cabs on the later nights when we just wanted to go to bed, and those ranged from $15-$30.
We didn't want to waste time taking public transportation from O'Hare since we arrived so late in the evening, so we took a private car, which cost us $65. Our friends came in through Midway and took the train and said the place was very easy to find.
We didn't spend much time in the neighborhood, as we had wedding events each day, but Rae drew us a beautiful map of the neighborhood, highlighting the local eateries, shops, and bus stops. She really went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of! She even texted me the night before our arrival to ask about our breakfast preferences and left some things out for us to eat during our stay.
Also, this neighborhood is completely residential. We walked back to the apartment from the bus stop (about 10 minutes in heels- the boys probably would've gotten back faster!) late at night and never felt threatened. It's a safe and quiet neighborhood.
Rae and Ryan's place is a lovely haven inside of Chicago. I absolutely hope I can stay there again the next time I'm in town!
Rae and her parter were fantastic guests, it's unfortunate we didn't get to talk that much as they are really interesting people and generous. I would for sure host them again with pleasure and recommend them to anyone. Interested, clean, respectful, real sweethearts.
Sometimes we host guests with whom we'd like to be life-long friends. Chicagoans Rae and Ryan are such people. They are intelligent and were interested in learning about Vermont and our experience here as well as being warm and open in talking about their lives. Their three nights with us were far too short, and we'd enjoy meeting up with this beautiful little family again.
Rae was a wonderful guest, who was easy to correspond with and left the apartment in great condition, exactly as she found it. Figuring out times for checking in and checking out was easy, and she made the experience of renting out the apartment very enjoyable for me. I would highly recommend her for any future airbnb bookings. Ravi
Rae and her family were delightful! They were perfect guests and lovely people. We hope they visit NYC again soon!
