I just returned to Los Angeles in order to work on editing two films, after living in Germany for 5 months. Before this, I was living in Arusha, Tanzania for 5 years working for the UN's Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda as an Audio/Visual Archivist. I made a film called Scrap Vessel (2009), about the final voyage of a former Chinese-owned freighter ship on its way to the breaking yards of Chittagong, Bangladesh. It was my thesis project for my MFA at CalArts.
I returned to LA because I was a bit distracted in Berlin. There's too much to do there and too much history to become endlessly overwhelmed by. I could not work there so I'm back in a place I find much easier to work.
And an article about my current film can be found if you type in "Jason Byrne Sudan" in Filmmaker Magazine.
All the best,
