I'm a pretty laid back guy who likes to spend time outdoors so if you'd like to stay at my place then i'll just go camping - it works out for everyone! :)

Garret was a fantastic host! My friend, his wife and I needed a place to stay for two nights leading up to a wedding here in Austin, but our plans were up in the air until the last minute. No matter — Garret hooked us up. He had some fantastic suggestions for places to go and things to eat, which were a boon even though we'd been here before. The neighborhood is nice and quiet, and it's an easy walk to the hot spots in South Congress (though not so close that you'll want to be walking back and forth too much in a day). The apartment is laid-back and very thoughtfully appointed, which we really appreciated, and he stocked us a few beers! It would've been helpful to have a car, but we ended up being fine without one.
Great spot in SoCo with little gems throughout the place. Recommendations were excellent. Fit three comfortably.
Garret's place was very comfortable, clean and in a great location. Easy access to everything we wanted to do in Austin. Thank you Garret!
Garret's place was perfectly located in S. central Austin, with easy access to Car2Go and bus routes, which was important to us. We loved the layout of the place, with easy access to outdoor areas in many directions! And the VW speedometer reminded me that I definitely need to find a creative use for the old speedometer from my Ghia. :)
We didn't get to meet Garret in person, but he made sure we had everything we needed. He even worked with us when we spaced and left behind our huckleberry elk sausage in his freezer. Lol! That was a gift for a friend that we certainly weren't going to get replaced in Austin! Thanks again, Garret.
Garret was a completely brilliant host. He picked us up at the airport with a cooler full of beers which was hugely appreciated after a ten-hour flight! Then he offered us advice on cool things to do in South Congress and made sure we were totally settled in, before leaving us to our own devices in his gorgeous, well-located apartment.
Later in the week, he even came along to see our film at SXSW! Couldn't recommend highly enough.
The neighborhood was nice, the place was comfortable, and really more spacious than the two of us needed. There are two markets (a large HEB (email hidden) / wine shop with some groceries and take-away food items) located between the apartment and South Congress. It's about a 15 minute walk to the heart of SoCo, and we decided to drive once (because we're Texans and mostly Texans don't walk), but we ended up having to park so far away that we'd have been better off leaving the car at Garret's place.
Garret was WONDERFUL. Not only did he offer us to use his bikes while in town he gave great insight to some of his favorite spots in town. Austin just rolled out a new City Bike Share program which we ended up taking advantage of instead of using the offered personal bikes. It was cheap, and Garret gave directions on how to pick them up as well as bus schedule information. I would certainly stay again, and woudl recomend his place highly. On top of all that, it was truly like a home away from home with all the natrual and green products he has throughout his home. Composting, recycling and Garret's overall attitude toward life and the enviroment made me feel very comfortable. The neighborhood is fantastic and the neighbors are all very friendly, many spoke to us on our way out as we walked or biked everywhere we needed to go once getting to Garrets.
Garret's awesome (if you need any recc's, he has a lot of great ones). His place is awesome. His place itself is in good shape and was very clean. It's just south of Oltorf in SoCo, and is really conveniantly located for getting to a lot of great things. Pretty much the entire area and into downtown is bikable from his place (he has 2 bikes that he lent us, even!). Walking should be doable too, but might be a bit of a trek to get to downtown.
There are just a few of things to be aware of, but nothing major (we felt) - especially at the awesome rate we had:
- As another reviewer mentioned: if the weather is cold (and it was pretty nasty when we were there), there's no built-in heating. To overcome this, he has some space heaters and the bed has some nice heavy blankets. The space heaters take some time to heat (tip: keep the bedroom door closed), but once they do, we found them sufficient for keeping the bedroom reasonably warm.
- One of the walls that is shared with one of his neighbors is sorta thin, so you can hear a bit. It wasn't bad though, and everything was quiet once the evening hit (so we weren't kept up or anything).
Had a good stay at Garret's place. Awesome location just off SOCO. Comfortable stay for 3 with the couch and aerobed he provided. Garret also left us some beers in the fridge, not that we needed any more.
Garret was out of town but he was still an extremely fast responder to emails, especially when we accidentally locked ourselves out. :T
Two thumbs up!
We had a great stay at Garret's. He was very welcoming and helpful with every question we had. The place is at a great location within blocks of South Congress and an HEB. Recommend for couples.
Garrett, we hope you enjoyed your stay in Breckenridge and got to ski some fresh powder! Thanks again for staying with us and you're welcome back anytime!
I enjoyed having Garret and his friend stay at my home. They were respectfuL, personal and fun. They experienced plenty of fresh powder and had a few great days of sunshine.
Garret has got to be in the top five percent of hosts in Austin (an uneducated but impressive-sounding guess in which I place great confidence). His place feels like a treehouse, which is cool enough, but also, hidden away in the crawl space, is every outdoor accoutrement you could possibly want. And if you're lucky he might tell you how to get to the secret spring on Town Lake!
Garret is a old friend who has stayed with us several times over the years. He's honest, trustworthy and a good human being !
He lives in a great part of town and if we didn't already live in Austin, we would stay with him!
Now that there is a 5 star RE-VIEW ! :)
Garret's rental is akin to a tree house in the woods and yet the house is located across town lake, and right in the center of everything happening in Austin! He is responsible, respectful and truly takes care of his home and his guests. I would recommend his place to anyone coming in to town.
Garret is one of the funniest guys I know! He's an avid cyclist that fully takes advantage of all that Austin has to offer. His house is conveniently located to enjoy Austin!
Garret and I our good friends. We met through the great biking community that is in Austin. He is very accommodating and funny. He's a huge Saints fan so you know he has to have a sense of humor, right?? Any who I highly recommend him as a host and a friend.
Garret is one of our favorite people in Austin. He knows the town like the back of his hand because he truly indulges in its wonders. Garret's got a great, laid-back space at a good spot in town. If you're lucky, you'll get the chance to meet him.
