The location is really convenient. Easy to get to from Newark airport and others. I got the key for the appartment from Allen's brother which worked out well. The matresses were fine, but upgrading them to beds would be a nice improvement.
At the beginning, we (me and my wife) were a little scared, because the apartament and the bathrooms were not very well cleaned, there was not toilet paper and we took torn bed linen.
Despite this problems we had a good time there, because it is very well localized and Allen could help us in some question. So in our opinion, It is a good cost-benefit in NYC.
We arrived a few hours before the scheduled check-in time and he welcomed us anyway! that was fantastic. In the hostel there are other people so you get to know people from other places. I saw the owner only the first day. We were never in the apartment. And we used to come home really late only to sleep. So our stay here was fantastic if you need a place to sleep this is great. 100% Recommendable......
Hallo Leute. The Empire State building ist direkt neben dran! That is New York!
I met Allen at my arrive at his property and he has been a great host, very nice and helpful, takin' me around in the building to show the place for the laundry service at 3rd floor (the apartment is on the 25th). There are 6 elevators too and the block is the same of the Empire State Building. For the subway you need just 10 seconds of walk by the main entrance and you are at less than 10 minutes from Times Square.
Room was small but for us it was not a problem, we only stayed there for sleeping.
If I'll back to NYC I surely try to get there again...
I actually never met Allen or Carissa during the entire visit, but I did meet Allen's brother Peter. He was very nice and was the one who handed me the keys to the apartment. The actual building was very nice and centrally located. The bathroom and living room were very nice and clean. The beds were not very comfortable, being so low to the ground. I think if the rooms were spruced up a bit, it would've been a lot more comfortable stay. It's a budget room, but prime location.
This location is THE place for SHOPAHOLICS.... :-) The apartment is just opposite Macy's and shops like Victoria's Secret, Banana Republic, Zara, Express, a huge Duane Reed and a couple of shoe shops are in a walking distance of less than 3 minutes. Empire State Building is in the same block... Times Square and Port Authority are reachable in about 15 minutes walking and Penn Station is within a walking distance of 5 minutes. If you arrive at JFK you can easily travel by Skytrain and subway (A line) and a short walk of less than 5 minutes to this place for approx. USD 7.50 (Taxi from/to JFK costs approx. USD 40-50).
The apartment is on the top floor (25th) and there is a nice rooftop with an amazing view to Empire State Building - you should ask Allen to take you there, as visitors are, according to house rules, not allowed to go to the rooftop by themselves.
The apartment has five bedrooms and it is likely that you walk into other travelers. There are two bathrooms available. My room was very simple, but clean. The view from the window was just into the next living room of the opposite arm of the building. I didn't care as I was out in the city the whole time and just returned to sleep.
I was welcomed by Allen's brother Peter who showed me around and answered all my questions. He's very friendly and helpful.
I can highly recommend this place if you would like to stay in the middle of this exciting city and if you're fine with a simple accommodation.
Allen And Carissa were the perfect guest! very respectful, the left the room clean and tidy. the spend most of the time outside.
Hope to see you again guy.
