This apartment was amazing, it was a privilege to be able to stay somewhere with such an amazing view.
The Penthouse was perfect for our four day stay. The view was worth climbing the 166 steps from the street below....spectacular! The Bay Bridge lights at night - wow! The kitchen had everything you would need including wine glasses and a corkscrew. The raised bed was comfortable. The location was excellent.
We found Cody to be efficient and helpful with his responses to our questions and within the apartment he has supplied just the right amount of info/instructions to help you get by, without feeling like there are a ton of rules to read through - much appreciated :)
The apartment is very unique and comfortable, has a comfy bed (equates to super-king size in UK) and decent shower (over bath) and big fluffy bath towels (no issues with hot water / heating). There is also has a very well equipped kitchen space, which we used a lot for various meals and actually it felt very much home-from-home and we chose to cook there a few times during our week long stay.
From the living area, there is an absolutely outstanding view across the Oakland Bay Bridge and the many piers along the Embarcadero, and because you're east facing, morning means amazing sunrises. The view really is fantastic and memorable and worth booking for this alone!
The local area/neighbourhood is safe and chilled. You're actually staying off-road, between Montgomery & Greenwich Streets, which have a set of (many) steps linking them (down a steep hillside) from Montgomery at the top and Greenwich at the bottom. If possible, I recommend arriving in daylight, since dragging two large suitcases down hundreds of steps (from Montgomery St) isn't much fun, but in the dark, it's seriously hard work and it's tricky to see the apartment number from the steps/path, or to know it was the top apartment in a set of 2/3 condo's (now you know!).
Telegraph Hill/North Beach area has a lot of great bars, eateries and some interesting shops. We really liked Mo's on Grant Ave (cross with Vallejo St) for breakfast and burgers and Fog City restaurant which is just down the steps on Battery & Greenwich for dinner. For cool shops and a different vibe, we headed down to Mission district (catch the muni bus (F line) from Embarcadero, which has great coffee places, independent boutiques and a lot of latin food, plus the awesome Bi-Rite grocery store. Fishermans Wharf is tourist central, if you like that sort of thing, go early and if it's too much, head west to Beach/Hyde St and grab a traditional Irish coffee at Buena Vista Cafe (really good). The Golden Gate park is stunning and HUGE, great art at the de Young Museum and lovely glasshouse at the Conservatory of Flowers.
Overall, a great apartment, but you need to be fit for the steps, there is no way to avoid them. For us, the view and home-from-home feel was well worth the effort :)
The location and view is fantastic. The house was clean and well stocked.
The only thing to consider is the steps. It is a long steep climb to the unit. Make sure your luggage is easy to carry. Getting dropped off at the top from Montgomery St. and walking down the steps is a very good idea.
Tip: San Francisco cabs are kind of lacking in their knowledge of the city (Use über if possible). Whoever you use, give them the specific address "1460 Montgomery St." This will put you right at the steps leading down to the unit.
Great location and unit! We stayed for a week and would stay here again next time. A really unique place, immaculately clean, located close to both touristy things, as well as areas where you'll find only locals.
We had a very enjoyable stay at the Telegraph Hill Penthouse. The location and views are magnificent. Cody was very responsive with an issue that came up during our stay. Overall a very nice stay.
Perfect, and exactly as listed. The views are worth raving about, and the spectacular and fascinating community along the steps is, to my knowledge, without equal anywhere in the country. Five minutes down the steps and across a little park and you can hop on the streetcar. Grocery two minutes walk away at the bottom of the steps. An absolute joy in every regard.
We arrived and stayed inside for almost two days such was the view and experience - loved the furniture collection, the place, the view, the locale, everything was there, so nice. What else to say - the bed is unique - an experience, comfortable but a bit challenging especially if you go later to bed in the dark, all else could not have wanted for more, other than to buy it, well done Cody.
As described the view is magnificent!!
