Brigitte was a great host and has a beautiful house. She lives above in another house and was readily available if we needed something but also non-intrusive when we didn't. The place had total privacy and it was the perfect getaway for our 20th anniversary. We could have done a lot more in the area but the place was so special that we didn't feel the need. Total relaxation with all the amenities you could ever want. Great wifi to stay connected yet private enough to soak in the moment. The beach was a 5-minute walk and absolutely beautiful. There is a little store in town that has most things you would need and a full grocery store 20 minutes away. A TOTAL WINNER!!!
This home was the perfect getaway in Costa Rica. It had the most fantastic view of the Pacific Ocean on one side and mountains on the other. Brigitte was a lovely host, and made us feel welcome immediately. The house itself was clean and comfortable, though we spent most of our time enjoying the outdoor space--the pool and deck, as well as a nice terrace off the master bedroom. The village of Esterillos Oeste is small, but nicely situated between Jaco (about 20 min) and Manuel Antonio National Park (about 45 min). The village has a small grocery store, a fruit stand, and a local man who sells freshly caught fish from a cooler, so we had everything we needed. In hindsight, it was nice to be off the beaten track. We were able to fully relax here--nice and quiet, with no crowds, even during Semana Santa (Holy Week). There are a couple of good restaurants near the beach, a short drive down the hill. A bit of advice: it would have been helpful to have a four-wheel drive car, as the dirt/gravel road up to the house is steep. Would highly recommend this rental.
Host made us feel very welcome, and the property was just perfect for two adults and four kids. Kids loved the pool. Be mindful of riptides at the beach. One hour drive from Manuel Antonio. Very close grocery store for all your needs.
A really nice, modern and spacious house. High standard of furniture and equipment. Clean with a wonderful terrace, garden and pool. We stayed here 6 person and still got plenty of space. The house felt very secluded and private and at the same time very safe. Birgitte was pleasant and helpful.
Had an absolute last. Brigitte & Fred were great host. Our trip was delayed by a volcano, we were met late that night. Couldn't ask for nicer couple. We will definitely book with them again. Next time we will bring the whole family.
We had a great time staying at Casa Velas. Brigitte welcomed us when we arrived and showed us around the house. We felt very safe and enjoyed the pool and nearby beach. She recommended a great restaurant to eat in the local town and the food was excellent. She checked in on us during our stay to see if everything was OK. We were grateful for the A/C since it was very hot. We enjoyed watching the Scarlett Macaws fly near the house and the iguanas sunbathing on the porch. Overall we loved the house and would recommend it to others.
Juste came back from Esterillos Oeste. What a wonderful month.... our hosts, Fred and Brigitte, made us feel right at home. This house is big, clean and can easily lodge 6 people comfortably. We felt very safe and found everything we needed for a nice Central American vacation! We strongly recommend it.

We arrived five hours late, by dark. Brigitte was waiting for us, guitar in hand. We reported a broken coffee machine. Two hours later, we found a new one left for us on the kitchen counter. Brigitte and Fred were there for us.
Beautiful country, cozy village, gorgeous house. Hope to come back.
We just had the best of all vacations at the Casa Velas in Esterillios Oeste. The only thing we could complain about was that one week was not enough.
Casa Velas accomodated us 4 adults and 3 kids (ages 2,4 and 5) comfortably. The kids spent most of their time in the pool or the beach, which is only a short walk away. For the adults the evenings on the deck in a mild pacific breeze turned into long joyful nights with the sound of waves and cicadas in the background.
Brigitte and Fred (the owners) are nothing but exceptional. If you stay long enough you will notice that everyone in the area knows them and will sing their praise without being solicited.
Esterillios Oeste is a quiet town in the mid pacific region of Costa Rica without all the action seen in Jaco, which is about 12 miles north. We were looking for a quiet place to relax and found our little piece of heaven at Casa Velas. If time allows us we would like to come back and stay there again.
We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Velas. The house is very spacious, with good open spaces to hang out, and the owners Brigitte and Fred were very helpful and caring. Esterillos Oeste is a non-touristy village with a small supermarket and good Caribbean fusion restaurant. If you want more choice you need to be happy to drive 20 minutes or so to the nearest towns. Manuel Antonio National Park is a 45 minute drive away on good paved roads.
