My reservation was canceled without official notification from Monique, so when I arrived from Italy (very jetlagged)in L.A. I didn't have a place to stay and was forced to stay at an airport hotel.
Then she called me to say I couldn't stay at the apartment I had paid for because someone else had taken it. She gave me an alternative and while I was on my way to find this apartment(without having seen pictures), she called to cancel! I was furious and she tried to solve the situation by offering a student accommodation in Westwood. I settled for it because I didn't have the time or patience having to deal with finding another place. The 3rd place wasn't nice at all. The A/C didn't work, WiFi was horrible (it took reconnecting 100x to make it work and then I'd lose connection within 5 minutes), and there was no pass to get into the garage, so I had to walk into the garage and open the garage from the inside, then run out and get into my car before the gate would close. A real nuisance! The apartment wasn't as clean as it should have been either as there was overcooked leftover pizza in the microwave!
I'm happy with Monique's service at all and find the way she handled everything very unprofessional.
rate ZERO, I too would not have paid and stayed if saw any negative reviews, since staying suddenly there is ALOT. our beds were on the ground the room was exactly like a sauna. i received over 12 emails the day i was supposed to check in asking me to cancel through AIRBNB and then pay here cash when we arrived. and if you would do that seeing as had already paid AIRBNB. room was not what was seen and booked on internet. And the reason given was that the supposed unit was booked out!!!!!! How can it be booked out we booked it... and we received alot of emails prior to arriving.. We nearly went elsewhere even to loose our money. We had travelled from Australia and not worth it at all. I feel sorry for the older gentleman that does the checking in and maintanance we over heard a call and he was gettign abused from Her..
DO NOT STAY AT ANY OF THESE PLACES IF YOU WANT SLEEP AND ENJOYMENT with your trip...
ZERO STARS, for 12 nights of SUFFERING, is what it deserves. Having paid in advance was a huge mistake because I could not walk out on over $1000 and pay again to stay someplace else.
There was NO Air Conditioning and temperatures rose to the 90's inside the unit. It was like being in a Sauna. Because there was no A/C, one had to open the windows and then hear every noise from the adjacent units.
The website picture and description of the bed was for a "Queen Size" but the bed was a full size without a frame with the mattress and box spring resting flat on the floor. It was hard to get in and out of bed but she claimed she did not want to get sued, if a guest fell off the bed.
The TV only received two channels no matter how much you worked with the rabbit ear antenna.
The advertised "fully applianced kitchen" did not have a Microwave or a Coffee Pot. There were no eating utensils of any kind. When I complained, she sent some dishes, flatware and pans.
We reported a problem with the bathroom immediately upon arrival but, it was never fixed during the entire 12 days we were there.
In addition, we had to suffer the noise of construction all day because the unit next door was being renovated.
Monique's attitude is reprehensible. She obviously doesn't care about her guests or getting repeat business. Her attitude was defensive and she did not work on making her guests comfortable.
I did send Airbnb actual pictures of the condition of the unit. If I had seen the reviews, before I booked, I would have never made the reservation.
Airbnb should never have units hosted by this person in their website unless they want to ruin their reputation by association; considering there are so many negative reviews from guests.
I a wondering where these bad reviews were before I paid in full for my apartment. If I had seen them I may have reconsidered, but there were only good reviews posted.
I had a bad experience, the apartment I paid for wasn't available, I got a call the night before to tell me that the woman in it wouldn't move out. I arrived and the other apartment I was put in was pretty awful, and blocks away from parking, and I refused to stay in it. I was shown an apartment in the building next door to the one I was supposed to rent...it was a nice room with a big closet so I took it, but there was construction going on in the room next door all week, I had to wait hours for it to be cleaned, the toilet ran all week, the TV didn't work no matter how much you messed with the rabbit ears.
Worst of all my car was towed from the lot!!! I was told to park in front of the building, but was never told I still had to park in front of the first building even though I had been moved next door. The manager would not acknowledge that she should have informed me of this, just kept insisting that she told me to park in front of the first building, which was maddening because that's when I was RENTING in that building! It cost me an entire afternoon and 300 DOLLARS! The manager was asked if it was her tenant's car, and she didn't even call and ask me even though she had my phone number. She was "too busy" to drive me to my car so I had to spend more money on a taxi. She would not pay any of this money, and there was nothing I could do about it. Nothing I could do about any of it really because I paid in full in advance.
She did finally say she was sorry after it was over but still wouldn't contribute anything towards the cost.
Good things - the room is actually adorable, is in a nice location, has a very big closet and eat in kitchen. No coffee pot or toilet paper, but I had plenty of towels and linens.

This is the worst stay I have had in a motel/hotel/apartment in over three decades!
Monique, the host, is an utter cheat and a liar. In addition, she has a tendency to blame her victims. I have called Airbnb and let them know about the problems, but so far, they have not done anything for me. In addition, I told Erin at Airbnb that they should refund the money, not just to me, but to everyone else who has had a terrible and utterly worthless experience staying at this apartment.
I will of course never again stay at any apartment hosted by Monique. Further, I will not use airbnb again, until this matter is resolved to the satisfaction of all guests who have been cheated by this host.
I stayed in the apartment on Strathmore, right next to the UCLA campus. We had booked it for two nights, back in July, and hence had not seen all the awful reviews of the place.
First off, the 'bed' is a futon on a low frame with broken slats. Further, though advertised for three, it can only acomodate two. The first night, we heard some creaking, so I had my wife and her mom sleep on the floor. I used the bed, because I am handicapped.
The next night, my wife tried the other side of the bed. The slats, presumably already weak, broke, and the bed visibly sagged down. We both quickly got off. She and her mom again slept on the floor, and this time, I used the narrow low sofa. On top of this, the next morning, when my wife sat near the foot of the bed, more slats broke. We are extremely lucky that these events did not seriously injure us.
When we were leaving, I called Monique, and let her know about the broken bed. She thanked me. However, she must have known about this all along, because there are reviews on the site that date back a few days before our stay, that specifically talk about the broken slats in the bed. On my return home, I called Airbnb and gave them a detailed rundown of the problems. They did not respond for several days, and finally, I called them back. They said that Monique would call me and try to resolve the issue. Monique called me the same day, twice in quick succession, and left two voice mails. She left messages to the effect that 'she did not find anything wrong with the bed', when her man had checked within 24 hours of our leaving. What an utter lie. When we left the apartment, the bed was visibly sagging in the middle right, and many of the narrow weak slats were totally broken.
There are numerous other problems with the place, but others have documented these pretty well. Toilet runs for hours. Fridge is loud, and goes on for long periods at night. There is no A/C, and the fan makes a ruckus but doesn't move much air. The lack of amenities, not even any trash cans, is sick. We saved our own trash in paper bags and took it down. There were three towels for the first day, but no new set was provided for the second day. Others have pointed out problems with the oven, the stovetop burners, and the parking spot that is pretty hard to get in and out of. The elevator is scary, and has notices all over about what to do if you are stuck. The apartment is dingy. There is a huge heavy mirror leaning against one wall, and being in earthquake country, we were praying that it wouldn't come crashing down on the people sleeping on the floor.
Finally, what was unclear from the website, and at the time of booking, and confirmation, was that there is a $35 cleaning fee tacked on. I wish they would make it crystal clear that this is a required fee, before folks make their booking. When I called Monique an hour before arrival, she said we had to pay a $35 fee, in cash. By the time you add it all up, we are talking over $100 per night, for something that is worth nothing, and from where you are lucky to get out with life and limbs intact.
Goodbye Monique. AirBnB has taken care of my issue on their own (even though, apparently, the host was uncooperative). I would be happy to try AirBnB again, but never again with the same host, Monique.'
you can't find a $88/night apt in Beverly hills and comes with a free parking. clean and spacious apt with a full kitchen(no microwave). it's really a bargain. Monique is a nice host and you can reach her any time day and night.
BUT, because the apt is located in a rental property (10 units). The unit next to us was renovating (from 6:30am), we couldn't even sleep at all. I wish Monique could have infomed us about the situation before we checked in. even though we paid 3 nights to stay there, but we moved out to a nearby hotel after the first night. (of course no refund is allowed!) also, the TV signal was kidda bad, the AC is pretty loud too. if you are going to stay more than 1 night, remember to ask for more toilet paper and you gotta bring your own soap/shower/conditioner/hair dryer.
other than that, $88/night is worth it! for the budget trip, this is the best way to go!

I requested a room near Santa Monica, which was accepted... I was then told that it was not available and the Studio near UCLA had been reserved. I explained that this was no good for me, as Santa Monica was near where I was working while in LA.
HOWEVER, seems my credit card had already been debited !!!... I queried this, and was told a refund would be put through immediately... nothing happened... I contacted a few weeks later... was told she'd be 'straight onto it'... two weeks later, still nothing, I contacted again... 'she said, 'have you contacted AirBNB ?'... I told her 'no, you were going to refund'... anyway, I'm still waiting and would like my $300 back please !!!
We were very disappointed and angry about our stay here.The room looked OK on arrival -as in the pictures.However,we arrived late at night after an 11 hour flight from the UK with a young child.There was only bedding for 2 people there, even though we had clearly stated we needed it for 3 people in the booking.Monique did arrange for some extra bedding to be brought to us , but told me I had to pay another $10 for that on top of the $35 cleaning fee payable on arrival.That seemed very petty -why was it extra if i had booked for 3 people in the first place? Also we had booked the studio on the basis that it had WIFI as advertised.This was crucial to me..It didn't work the entire stay (5 nights).I needed to run my business online and I lost money.I called her and she said she couldn't do anything about it but would look into it.On the phone she was rude to my wife and accused her of speaking bad English! (please see moniques personal greeting on this page and her own language skills).She suggested that it was my computers fault, and then accused me of using the minutes up on her cleaners phone with my long conversation with her even though he had asked me to talk to her on it himself!I gave the cleaner some cash cos I felt sorry for him personally for having to pay his own phone bill whilst working for someone like this.During the stay I had to go online Starbucks and paid 3.99 for every two (website hidden) sure I wont get this money back from Monique..Or the $10 cash for my pillow and bedding..for the sofabed which is pretty uncomfortable by the way.Every day I called her to resolve the WIFI issue, she just fed me a story about the service area being down with Tine warner and she couldnt do anything about it.I doubt this was true and even if it was she really didn't give a damn cos she had her money already from (website hidden) beware of pre pay accomodation - you may not get what you paid for and you will be powerless to do anything about it, as I was here.Oh, and the room is really really hot and theres no air con just a tiny electric fan.
[Strathmore Drive, LA, CA90024] Brilliant location (safe neighbourhood, between Santa Monica and the centre of LA) and Westwood Village short walk away.
There was a little confusion when we were booking in and the appartment wasn't as clean as it could have been. We also had to push for the off street parking that had been advertised in the advert. Would have been a bargain at $60 but for $10 more you can get a travel lodge or similar.
Monique is one of my best friends. She is a very professional business operator, and I love the apartments she designs - they are amazing! They're way better priced than local hotels, and all are located in prime locations.
They're a great deal for travelers, and a nice home away from home :) You should give it a try!!!
