Believe! Everything you have read in all the glowing reviews is true. We just spent a week at the Octagon. My wife was sick, so we spent a lot of time in the house. If you have to be sick, that's a great place to be. You didn't have to go further than the porch to enjoy the full splendor of approaching spring. I could have spent all day just enjoying the various woodpeckers that came to feed. We really didn't feel like we had to go anywhere else to feel the full joy of vacation. We did manage to go to the Blackfriar theater one night - do not miss it!
Thank you very much for your stay, the kind review, and leaving the house in such lovely shape. All the best, Jill
Sarah Beth welcomed me on my first day and showed me around. The Mountain Octagon home was exactly as listed. The perfect place release, relax and rejuvenate. I will definitely visit this lovely place again.
My boyfriend and I spent a long weekend at the Mountain Octagon and had a incredible time. The views were great and we did some great bird-watching on the deck before heading out to Chimney's Hollow for a long hike, which is very convenient to the house. Everything we needed was provided, and we couldn't have asked for better time.
I stayed at the Mountain Octagon for a weekend, and the experience was absolutely delightful. Everything from the astonishing views to the cleanliness of the house was exceptional. If you are looking to have a nice, quiet, and relaxing weekend, this is exactly where you want to be.
We appreciated the communication with our host in the weeks leading up to our trip. Our accommodations were comfortable and cozy, just as beautiful and peaceful as the pictures portray. The sunrise was just beautiful as were the shadows on the mountains as the sun rose higher from daybreak. Kitchen had everything we needed, bathrooms were clean and functional, bedroom and living room were restful. Would love to come back.
My husband and I spent the weekend at Jill's Mountain Octagon this past weekend. It truly is a gem in the middle of nature. The views are beautiful, the space is very cozy (we loved having the warm fire place on in the cold, snowy weather!), the home is extremely well-maintained, and Jill is a fabulous host. Everything we needed for our stay was anticipated and provided. The kitchen is well stocked, there are games to play, a Netflix and Pandora account to use, plenty of towels, and the comfortable robes were a nice touch! We loved the location too. Not far from fascinating natural caverns, horseback riding, hiking, and the happening town of Staunten (great food, shops, theater!). Jill is very responsive, accommodating, and Sarah Beth who greeted us at the house was also very kind and helpful in getting us settled. Thank you!
Had a weekend getaway Feb. 20,2015. Boy what a get away!!! We had a really nice time and the place was exactly as described. Neat and clean with a lot of amenities for your comfort. We received 18 inches of snow while at the house. A bit scared about getting down the mountain to be honest BUT the neighbors quickly put our concerns at rest. They together kept the steep mountain road passable. We also had 4 wheel drive thankfully. The snow amount was unexpected but the scenery was beautiful. Jill called and offered a discount if we wanted to leave and gave us options which was very nice.. All in All a very nice place to stay.
The Octagon is the perfect getaway spot. It is unique in design and offers great views and seclusion. Perfect for a valentines day retreat with my wife. Sarah Beth and Jill were extremely gracious and had everything ready for us when we arrived. The house was clean, fully stocked with anything you would need, and comfortable. Even on the coldest days of the year it was extremely warm and cozy. I would recommend this to any couple interested in spending quality time together.
Everything twas perfect!
My boyfriend and I spent three nights at the Mountain Octagon and had an awesome time. We were greeted by Sara Beth, who showed us around the house and made sure we were comfortable. The house was just as described on airbnb and even exceeded our expectations. Architecturally, the home is really creatively and intelligently designed. We loved drinking mimosas in the morning and watching the birds eat from the feeder. We saw tufted titmouses, chickadees, snow birds, and three types of woodpeckers - even a pileated woodpecker that was 18 inches tall! The windows all around the home made us feel like we were in a tree house. The location was great - we felt the privacy of being in the woods, yet we were only about 30 minutes from Staunton. We hiked the Chimney Hollow Trail off of 250, checked out Braley Pond, and visited the Natural Chimneys. Numerous maps and guidebooks are available for you to decide what to explore within the area. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely book again!
Jill was a delight to host. Kind and appreciative, and she left the space spotless. It's always great to get to host other airbnb hosters. They make the best guests, and Jill was no exception. I'd welcome her back anytime.
