We enjoy traveling, and both have busy professional day time work. Shelli & Luke.
Shellie and Luke were very friendly. The house is very nice, the room maybe a bit smaller than we expected. The area did not feel too secure. Easy parking.
Great accommodations and hospitality.
Wonderful people, wonderful homestay, wonderful location. Shelli and Luke were a great introduction to the experience of airbnb. If we were ever in Honolulu again we would definitely love to see them again, and continue our conversations about tea, photography and crazy travel stories. we felt very at home in their home and would recommend them as hosts to anyone who enjoys a calm friendly environment.
For us this was a super convenient way to transition through Honolulu between our Hawaiian winter and mainland summer. We needed a fridge and a freezer, fairly close proximity to Waikiki, some last-minute errands, the Bishop Museum, and the airport, and a place to leave our stuff the day of departure before going to the airport. For these very specific travel parameters, this arrangement and location worked out very very well.
The hosts, Shelli and Luke are both very nice. Given this was just as one night stay for us, we were fortunate to meet both of them.
Things to consider: you will be sleeping on a futon. They are often rather firm. I might suggest a foam pad be added to the bed to raise the comfort level just a notch. The parking situation is typical city stuff - being used to NYC, no problem. If you are looking for an easy spot in the driveway, this is not your place. If you don't mind reading signs, moving your car for trash day, and following the same parking rules and directives as the local residents in the area, then you will be fine.
Overall, worked very well for our temporary transition back to the mainland. We may well do this as we come through again next year :)
Shelli and Luke were great hosts! Their place was clean, looks exactly like the pictures on their profile and very Zen-like. They, as a couple, are wonderful, warm and welcoming. Luke has so many great stories about all his travels around the world, so they are social if that is what you're looking for in a stay. Your room is very private, so if you just wanted time by yourself, that is totally doable.
The only reason for 4 our of 5 stars, to no fault of their own, is that they live on a street where a lot of cars and motorcycles go up the mountain - I just thought it would be a little quieter. I just wish I knew that before I came, but it will not prevent me from staying here again!!!
Luke and Shelli were great hosts and were very helpful in giving us information on activities and places to see as this was our first visit to Oahua. We felt comfortable being in their home and enjoyed their company.
Very warm and welcoming place. Not straight forward to find but clear explanations from Shelli were enough to find the place.
The house, on the hill, offers a quiet and comfortable place to stay. We stayed there only one night but had a very pleasant stay. Definitely recommended.
Shelli and Luke were great hosts. I loved their house and enjoyed the room and bathroom. Such a refreshing alternative to Waikiki. They were full of suggestions and stories about whatever I was interested in doing. Luke has an encyclopedic knowledge of the trails and nature sites of Oahu. Their artistic nature permeates the environment in their home. It truly is the House of Zen.
The hosts Luke and Shelli were great. Very friendly and accomodating. Their home is located in a very serene location out of the hustle and bustle of Waikiki near Tantalus yet close if you want to go there. I had a short stay but look forward to going back.
Shelli has been a wonderful guest. She is very sweet, helpful and kind and anyone considering her as a future guest should have no hesitations about allowing her to share your home.
My cat loves her and he also gives her a great referral. Lots of Meow and Purrsl
