Wayne and Vicki purchased this charming 110 year old house in lovely historic downtown McKinney, Texas in 2011 and opened McKinney Bed and Breakfast in May of 2012. They have raised 2 daughters and 2 sons, who are now all in their 20s!
Wayne played baseball for the University of Houston, and still plays with the Men's Adult Baseball League and the Men's Senior Baseball League, pitching full games in pursuit of making it out to Phoenix each year for the World Series! He has written 3 historical novels and enjoys great books as well as any conversation that has anything at all do with sports! Vicki grew up in Palm Beach Florida, but made her way out to Texas where she graduated from the University of Texas in Arlington with a degree in Speech Communication. She has done everything from chalkboard art to marketing, but most of all loves creating beautiful spaces and amazing food for other people's enjoyment!
Wayne and Vicki always thought that they would end up in North Carolina, or somewhere where there were trees and mountains, vs. the concrete world that is Dallas. And then, they happened upon McKinney, a place in Texas like none other. You almost have to see it to believe it: Blocks and blocks of beautiful ornate historic homes and businesses. Trees that date back to the early 1800s. Shops and stores and restaurants residing in buildings that once housed brothels and saloons. A town that was built when Abraham Lincoln was president and survived the Great Depression, two world wars, slavery, prohibition, and everything since then.
McKinney's downtown square hosts a multitude of festivals and activities all year long, including monthly art and wine walks, a fresh weekend farmer's market, seasonal ghost tours, bike races, Oktoberfest, and so much more! Wayne and Vicki's home is a 7 minute walk to this charming and unique place where American history stands proudly, but kindly takes a bow to the all that is new and fun in today's world.
The Hills invite you to enjoy a special weekend in McKinney, but are also available for the business traveler who prefers the quiet and comfort of staying in a home. McKinney is approximately 30 miles from downtown Dallas, 45 minutes from the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, and an easy hour's drive to see the Rangers or the Cowboys in action!
