the cabin was exactly as described, and Avi was very helpful. the view was very nice and there is a large deck, hammock and fire pit outside. I would recommend this to anyone and would happily stay here again. thanks Avi!
We stayed at Avi's cabin for 4 nights during our mini honeymoon and we had a great time. You can't beat the views of the valley as the place is literally at the top of a mountain. It got cold during our trip, but thankfully Avi provided heaters in every room and a wood burning stove. We were able to make dinner every night in the fully function kitchen and gas grill. Avi also provided books on local hikes and nearby towns (check out Livingston Manor, Narrowsburg and Callicoon).
I just want to highlight a few things that could use improvement:
Avi told us to call him upon arrival if we planned on using the wood burning stove. I called him and couldn't reach him. I left him 2 messages and a message on airbnb and he didn't get back to us until 15 hours later. Granted, he was in a place with no cell reception, but we basically had to go a night without the stove, which would have been great to keep warm.
The dishwasher was out of order.
The netflix attached to the TV didn't work.
The propane tank at the grill was left open when we arrived, so we had to drive into town and grab a new one.
It was a great place to stay regardless of the little inconveniences. Be sure to bring an suv. We rented one and couldn't be happier. It's a steep trek up the driveway to the cabin and normal cars will not make it up. We can't wait to stay again. Thanks Avi for making our minimoon special.
We loved the cabin! It was clean and comfortable and quite secluded. The views are stunning and it felt really good to be there. The driveway is difficult for little cars though! Our honda fit didn't make it up the drive so we parked down below and carried stuff up. Not really a big deal for us but could be inconvenient for less fit people. Also try to get there before dark if not adventurous and savvy. Avi was always available by phone if we needed. He was helpful and informative. FYI sprint cell didn't work and tmobile did.
This was exactly what we were looking for to get out the city for the weekend. Everything was exactly as described, if not better. The place is beautiful and the location is remote but still accessible to anything we needed. Avi was a great host and would be my first option when staying up in the Catskills again.
Awesome place for recording music! Peaceful and beautiful. The place was clean and had everything we needed!
thanks for the great time!
The Avi's cabin is incredible. That's our second time.
Really private & beautiful location, but FYI, our Honda Civic wasn't able to drive up the hill. Avi was very helpful in suggesting places for us to park, but we still had to schlep all our stuff up to the cabin. Once we were there, we enjoyed the mountain views & fire pit very much. Also, wish I had read more carefully ahead of time & realized we had to haul out our own trash.
Beautiful views. The stay was relaxing. The place was set up well.
We spent a great and relaxing week at Avi's cabin with our dog. The house was exactly as advertised; in fact, even better than as advertised.
The pictures just don't do the place justice, esp. the view off the deck. It was just so beautiful. Making fires outside in the fire pit at night, sitting on the deck looking at the stars, just gazing out at the mountains…. I loved every minute of it!
For people looking for a good place to go with a dog, Parksville is an excellent option, as many places are dog-friendly. We were able to take our dog to the lake, hiking, and even to eat with us at the Rolling River Café (we sat outside).
-The lake, at the bottom of the hill before you turn off Hunter Lake Road to get to the house, is a nice spot. The private beach is small, and it was a bit too cold for us to swim, but we waded in the water and our dog had fun playing fetch.
-Covered Bridge Campground: a short distance away down Hunter Lake Road has an easy hike to a waterfall that was really fun. They also have some farm animals-- chickens, geese, and a goat--and you can buy food to give them. This would be good for kids, or childish adults like myself.
-Beaverkill Trout Hatchery: We bought fresh and smoked trout from them and it was incredible! A bit of a distance away (30 miles). There may be a closer one.
-The Rolling River Café: As others have said, try the dumplings! They also have some good craft beers and very nice service.
-Roscoe, a picturesque nearby town has a distillery that makes vodka, bourbon and gin, and there is also a craft brewery there. They both do tastings, so it’s worth it to go walk around and do a tasting/check out the town.
- On Hunter Lake Road, there is a woman who sells inexpensive firewood (the firewood and the sign are out in front of her lawn) . She also sells eggs and homemade jam. Try them out.
It rained a couple of days while we were there, but between books and Netflix, it was actually nice just to hang out inside the house.
The one thing I feel that has been a bit undersold in the reviews is the distance to the house if you don't have a four-wheel-drive. Particularly, if like us, you have food, alcohol and other supplies to last an entire week, it’s quite a workout to haul everything up the hill. But it ended up working out fine for us, because I was planning on being lazy all week, and it gave me a bit of exercise.
All in all, we had a great time and highly recommend it.
We had a wonderful relaxing vacation week at Avi's beautiful cabin. The cabin is exactly as described -- I'm happy to report authentic advertising here! It is secluded, comfortable, and full of charming touches. It is also right near a lovely private beach on a lake. Avi was extremely communicative and attentive. We want to go back so the dilemma is having to be so honest about how fantastic this cabin is!
Thanks judy! great to have you as a guest !
Avi and friends were excellent gests and would be welcome back at any time. Highly recomended
I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Avi's place is an easy hop from NYC yet feels worlds away. It has a great view of the Catskill Mtns, and though it's just a few minutes drive from highway 17, it feels totally isolated. I was up there with 6 buddies for a weekend, got up there Fri night, did a long day hike on Devil's Path on Saturday in the Catskills, and BBQd and swam in the very nearby very private lake on Sunday. The place was clean and comfortable, and Avi's laid back demeanor made everything run very smoothly. I highly recommend this place
